It's hard to have a flame war when you don't know who you're yellin' at.

No, it's not. If the post is sensible, it's you or Seru or Sean or Browning or pdad or sarnali or...

If it's idiotic, well...
Re: Local View of Harley Str

40% more than other manufacturing workers in PA?

Apparently the Union hasn't realized that it's the factory that has designed and marketed this amazingly successful product.

It's like the waitress wanting more dough because she works at a restaurant with a great chef.
HD workes need to take field

I agree 40% more is quite a difference. No need to offshore I think some unemployed UAM and IAM (aerospace) workers would love to get those jobs These HD worker folks need to get out more. Car companies and Aerospace companies are shutting down entire factories that made parts and subassemblies. Because they can outsource it far cheaper than pay the union wage. All that is done here is final assembly.... I think the average aerospace worker has a higher and more diverse skill set. as well .Heck Harley should put in an add in the Seattle times..Lots of folks that used to work in factories here working at Walmart. Hardly anyone has totally company paid health care anymore or guranteed raises for the next 3 years. And the trend is away from pensions to larger contributions to 401K it's better in the long term for the company i.e. financial obligations in bad times are far less.

Looks like you sucked in an idiot already. The cowardly type, too.
Re: Local View of Harley Str

Oh God I just got a call from your wife...a GPTB intervention is needed. A team of Gen Xs and Ys is on its way to get you out of that cult led by the Evil Weasels (Buz, lr, seru,Sean)
Re: Local View of Harley Str

Well, there is a bit of truth in the idea that the workers should share in the profits when times are good. Unfortunately this is a one way street . They'll never agree to take pay cuts when times go sour.

They could try a profit sharing plan. As if the union would ever go along with it.

"They could try a profit sharing plan"

Glad you see it my way now...My posts do get through sometimes.. :) Hey you are great guy... Have a great night buddy
Re: Local View of Harley Str

I see valid positions on both sides of this argument. I don't think taking those jobs "off-shore" is a viable option for "Harley". I'm curious as to what the "average" Harley guy thinks about this.
Re: Local View of Harley Str

You mean me?
They don't have to.. Help Wa

With a 40% differential they don't have to offshore Just hire replacement workers. Heck they could probably could hire them for 20% less.. as justify by saying they aren't trained or skilled yet. Like said below put an ad int Detroit, Seattle, or Long Beach papers.
Wanted ex-auto or ex-aerospace factory workers, excellent pay, paid medical, 401K, nice small town living.
Re: Local View of Harley Str

Sure, I guess, most of the Harley guys I see lately seem like "Regular Joes" even though there's a lot of joking about them all being R.U.B.'s. They seem to be a little more than half "Posers" and a little less than half "serious" Riders, same as "Sportbikers".

If I had a better idea of the real demographics and experience/usage data of Harley owners including the percentage owning/having owned foreign bikes I could better Guess their take.
Re: Local View of Harley Str

Can't be kpaul - he said he'd quit doing that moderating thing that he denied ever doing in the first place.
Re: They don't have to.. Hel

I read your new title on Outlook, congratulations on the step up the ladder. I'm assuming it comes with a commensurate increase in your stipend? so new bike soon?

Anyway the new hires at HD don't get matching contributions to their 401k's which seems like the cheap shot in the whole deal. Seperate pay scales for new hires isn't new, niether are contributions to medical, I have Group Health for my family and it's $35 per month, or peanuts...

Part of our last contract was breaking IUOE away from IAM pay and bennies, which I thought was a good Idea. They were nothing but dead weight to us and we got a much better contract out of the deal. Some take aways but overall very favorable, we still had some guys pissing and moaning , wanting a strike and all but 6 figures and full bennies is fine by me. We told them pretty much the same thing, go somewhere else if you don't like it.

kpaul invested years of his life and thousands of dollars of tuition to get the training that enables him to be paid much more than an assembly-line worker. It probably took him at least ten years after graduation before his net worth equalled someone who took a job at Harley right out of high school.

Get skills or get screwed.

What's a strik?

Union = Death of the US Auto Industry

Union = Death of the US Airline Industry

Union = UPS (over priced service and damaged boxes with no apologies)

Union = Future death of the US Motorcycle Industry

Union = Extortion of the hard working members by the normally corrupt leaders.

Union = Democrats who don't want the workers to get ahead so they'll depend on their failed policies.

College = Upward mobility without having to create an reason why a worker deserves increased pay and benefits.

Ha! I've been there. Worthless printer's union. I went back to college at 32yrs old and completely changed my career. Now I'm far far better off than I'd have been sticking to some job where someone else negotiated my pay and benefits.

If I can do it anyone can do it. If people want to remain unskilled in today's job market then they can pay the penalty. I've got no sympathy for the lazy who expect the world to be delivered to them on a platter merely because they are alive.

Each person's life is entirely his own responsibility. It ain't mine or the govt's or anyone else's. Anyone who thinks otherwise is likely to end up in deep doodoo.

Who ever called you "average?"
