There is a simple response here.
From an old guy that rides a Busa, the story and the loud pipes are more about, what we used to call, common courtesy. The people in the cars don't mind the pipes or the lane splitting as long as it's done without flaunting it. The pipes are no problem until the noise is thrust on people in their homes. Yes there are outlier personalities, but they are only empowered by rudeness.
Pass the word, ride courteous it's usually safer and if you want play hard, find a place were you bother the least number of people.
