I see a lot of bikes for sale that list as "Lady ridden" or "adult ridden," and I'm thinking that's irrelevant. Aren't adults/women equally liable to do stupid things on bikes, or neglect maintenance?

What they want you to think is that 'adult' = 'responsible'. This would mean the bike was only ridden to church on Sunday uphill, and was coasted downhill back home, never was taken over 25 mph, and all maintenance was done twice as often just to be sure.
I suspect that statistics probably support the implication ;-)
Since apparently the old guys are now offing themselves in nearly the numbers that the kids are I'd say it's a wash.

All I care about when I buy a bike is a "clean title in hand" anyhow.
Injury forces sale...

..is always a good advertisement to look for. 'specially when it involves 20+ year old lawn darts like KZ750 Turbos or XS1100's.
My 35 year old neice...

... with 5 kids recently dumped her husband, who was a very nice hard working guy, for some other assh0le that no one can stand to be around.

"Adult" behavior.

Then there's that Kenneth Moore guy who recently sold a perfectly good Shovelhead and bought a DL1000. Sheesh. What's the world coming to?

I'm about ready to go down there and string him up myself. I'll even use a new rope so he can't complain!
