Unless you live somewhere the temperture regularly drops below 60 degrees. The pilot sports have the worst grip when cold, and take the longest to warm up, of any tire I've had. That said, I still run with them.

Years ago, I remember reading predictions about future gadgets we'd be using and enjoying the benefits of. Among other things were flying cars and robots that would do our mundane tasks, like house cleaning. Probably for the better, we have no flying cars and our robot maids have turned out to be Honduran women. One thing the futurists didn't calculate is the great leaps forward in the field of pornography. I'm pretty low-tech compared to most, I don't own a cell phone, but a guy I work with has one with a color screen that has a surprisingly high resolution. With porno images on cell phones, who needs flying cars? Alexander Graham Bell, must be wondering about his place in history.
I've always thought that tires are to motorcycle racing, what aerodynamics are to NASCAR racing. Every year, the same topic of what tire company has the best product on the track, comes up. This is pretty goofy, as it muddies up the more important debate of who makes the best motorcycles and who the most skilled riders are. NASCAR uses the same tires on all cars. I think that motorcycle racing should do the same. To keep the hillbilly fans of each car brand in NASCAR happy, the powers that be are always changing the rules on spoiler height, in order to keep the cars even. Of course, this is kind of bogus to make different rules for different cars, but it's not too much worse than the tire issue in motorcycle racing.
macadam 90's are the best tires I've used so far, I'd always used dunlop's, but the mac 90's came stock on my bandit, I've found that they stick like glue 'till the pegs grind and when they do slide it's a nice drift, not abrupt or unsetteling. Wet traction is as good or better than anything I've found, and they've lasted 18k miles, though they're coming off soon, some cupping on the front, but no worse than the BT 050's or D205's i've used on the VFR, or metzlers on my ZX10, all in all for freeway commuting and mountian pass shredding they're pretty good, I'll replace them with either mac 100's or the new pilot street or road or whatever they're calling it. One advantage to a cold wet climate is that tires last a long time, but chains and sprockets get hammered, I run 36/40 psi and consistantly get over 10k on tires
The mileage on macadams is impressive. Can anyone tell me if they're good enough for the occasional track day (rear tire only, I'll use Pilot Sports on the front). My TLR just chews through tires too quickly, and it's getting difficult to convince the domestic goddess that I NEED money to buy a new tire again.
Well, rider and motorcycle are a unique system. The tires are part of the motorcycle. You can't compare riders without eliminating the contribution of the motorcycle to the rider's performance, or motorcycles without eliminating the contribution of the rider. But the relationship of the two major elements of the system are too complex to eliminate.
Racing riders against each other on the same bike proves superiority only on that bike/rider system. You can't seperate them.
I'd like to find out if anyone has found the Pilot Race down right dangerous on the road, particularly when cold. I came off at 20mph on a downhill right hander on my brand new stick like #%&% Pilot Races, trashed my ZX9, and had my right leg amputated above the knee, my left leg crushed to pulp and now only 50% use. Oh yeah did I mention that these were recommended as the best thing since **** Doohan. Two years, 13 operations later I want to ask mr Michelin if he would like to donate some readies to my survival fund now that I can't work for a decent wage. Anyone heard any similar stories?
