31 tires, per rider, per weekend. I love racing but that seems amazingly wasteful. It seems like durability is just screaming for attention. With FIM wanting to reduce speeds a very quick and easy way would be to severely limit the number of tires and force riders to go with harder compounds.
For comparison, Champ Car limits cars to 28 tires for most events, with the couple 500 mile races allowing for 48 tires. Remember they're burning up four at a time which does a good job of showing just how soft and fragile MotoGP grade tires are.
Racers will be racers, which would make your suggestion for harder compounds a very dangerous issue (more crashes, high sides, etc) Let them develop the best they can at the race track, and we all get the benefits on the street, a win win situation.
