The environmental extremists are slowly taking away the motorized rights of all outdoor enthusiasts. What possible environmental harm comes from riding on sand dunes? The next strong wind rearranges all the sand anyways! Snowmobilers are having the same problems. When used on adequate snow cover, snowmobiles don't do any environmental harm. The snow melts in the spring and the trail just looks like any other overgrown path in the woods. All motorized users need to unite and answer back to the big money eco-terrorists, most of whom never even get out far enough into their beloved wild areas to even appreciate them anyways!
More Bad News: CA Dunes Partially Closed
If the area is worth saving as a off-road recreational area then go after the remaining acerage. If we could organize a offical offroad group that would have dues and pehaps the capacity to raise funds for the outright purchase of the land. Also present to the public a well thought out land use plan that shows that we are thinking not only about how we would like to use the land but to include others.
As far as the acerage that has been lost...its spilt milk. Lets not focus on what has been done to us but what we can do.

I agree with You. Though Unfortunately It takes the long arm of big brother to do these sort of things. We need to take this type of action on for ourselves....actually we just need to educate ourselves better.
You sound like the retarded one. Why is anything important...why are humans important. You never know what link this plant may play... and yes thousands of species have been wipeout, mainly from enviromental pressures other than man. But that dosen't mean we can go pell mell for unfortunately the Number of new species introduced each day is not keeping up with what is being exterminated. Its all about Balance.

I just want to remind everyone who voted for Gore (I'm sure there are one or two of you out there) that in his distortion-filled Jeremiad "Earth in the Balance" (or whatever the hell it was called), Gore advocated banning the internal combustion engine altogether. More bullsh*t from Komrade Klintons Administration. I lived in the California high desert (around Mojave) for 11 years, and I can tell you it's hard to hurt sand and dirt. Yeah, you could go out of your way to be an a-hole and run over the desert turtle's, and flowers, but that's true of anyone, even the enviro-nazi's. I've been to the sand dunes of New Mexico, and, if the area in Ca. was like it, there's NO WAY we could do any damage. On the dunes, THERE IS NO VEGETATION. PERIOD. How can you possibly kill what ISN'T THERE!? The prevailing winds change the dunes constantly. 80,000 off-roaders? Sounds like we outnumbered the enviro-nazi's. Oh, and about the noise? Like a little cheese with that whine? I happen to believe very strongly that loud pipes save lives. What's louder, your pipe, or the cheesy horn bolted to todays bikes? I've had idiots encroach into my lane, oblivious to my horn, untill I gave them a blast of throttle. Besides, you actually think the noise is going to scare a lizard or 2? Ever heard of LIGHTNING? That's all-natural, try to ban that.

Gore won all the City dwellers. Find a county by county map of who won the votes. Bush took the rural country areas, and Gore took LA county, and other of that size. These are the tree huggers that are trying to save the world from me. What does a City Dweller know about the environment?

In northern Minnesota in winter there are two types of winter tourists - snowmobilers and cross country skiers. Both co-exist with no problem. Snowmobilers spend a whole lot more money than the skinny skiers ever do though! Now they want to close all the motorized trails. There goes the whole winter economy of all small towns in the snowbelt down the toilet. The Feds and city folks don't care, but my friends and neighbors sure do. And modern snowmobiles do not put out oil and soot on the snow, as some moron tried to insinuate in a previous reply!

Dear City Dweller know-it-all. Don't you realize that there is a complete double standard that is being applied to off-roaders? Why are cars being allowed to get bigger and bigger and less efficient(i.e.10mpg Ford Excursion), while motorcrossers are getting their land taken away and a crackdown on their "filthy" 2 stroke motors?? It's completely hypocritical. And i'll let you in on a secret - the EPA knows whats going on, because they are certifying these SUV's for the road!!!And you never hear the EPA protesting the building of malls - the most horrible thing of all you can do to the green earth. Tell you what - you rabid green freaks start making some noise about SUV's and malls, then come back and talk your trash to me.
