Well I'm sorry to hear that. My dad's been fighting cancer for the last 18 months.

Sorry about that post...I was in a weird mood yesterday. I guess it's because I took what will probably be the last ride on the old HD. As far as I know, I'll be losing a "family member" Wednesday. Talk about mixed emotions...

As for your Dad, God bless you both. Nothing prepares you for how hard it is to lose a parent. I've still got my Mom, Dad passed away in 2003. It's still pretty tough, even now.

No problem, i thought I must have hit a sore spot. My dad's in remmission eating Vicodin and whatever else like popcorn and trying to enjoy what he has left. Terrible times.
A Really Good Question

So, why are you getting rid of the HD?
I guess because I'm rarely using it anymore. Since I got the Concours, I hardly ride it. In part, I'm always worried about some cager wrecking it, or something major breaking that I can't afford to fix. Also, my son doesn't like it, although he's happy to ride the Conster, the HD is too loud and hot. And, I guess after 15 years, I'm just tired of it.

I put the bike on Ebay at a really high price about 3 months ago, and nobody bid on it. Then this lady representing a Japanese buyer came out of nowhere, willing to pay the price. So, on Wednesday, a Man from Japan will come and take it away. One thing that makes it easier to sell it is that the buyer is a collector who will complete the restoration to factory stock. It's 80% original now, but he will locate and install the OEM seat, bars, etc. Apparently OEM Shovelheads are extremely popular in Japan, especially Low Riders.

If he doesn't show, that's cool too! But, there will be dissappointed sales guy...I hope he hasn't spent the commission yet!

Wait, wait, wait. We have been told repeatedly that HDs are not popular anywhere else but in dumb ole 'Merica. I believe there is a blog that talks about this.

The irony of a Japanese guy coming to the US to buy an AMF HD, which of course was almost put out of business by the Honda 750 et. al. is quite something, isn't it?

"I HATE IRONY!"

Even more ironic, that after they almost put them under, they spent the last 25 years copying every move they make. Whatcha buying anyway Ken?

May I have the envelope please?

Drum roll....................................................

It's a Brand New 2007 Suzuki V-Strom 1000! (APPLAUSE, CHEERING)

Tell 'em about it Johnny!

That's right Wink, it's the fabulous 20007 Suzuki V-Strom, the original Urban Assault Cycle! You'll be sitting high in the saddle with the Vee's raised rider position....blah blah blah.

Go figure, I wandered into a dealership and saw one. It really appeals to me for a variety of reasons, and the aftermarket/clubs/website support is huge. Stromtroopers.com is a pretty cool website, and there's a Florida V-Strom club that might be fun.

Now, that guy from Japan better show up with his $10k Wednesday or I'm going to fly to Japan and choke him for putting me through all this bru-haha.

Good choice.

I rode a friend's DL1000 a couple months back on a 35 mile loop of Interstate and twisty mountain roads with about 3000 feet of elevation changes. If I had to own one motorcycle the DL1000 would be at the top of the list.
Nice bike. It's ugly, but will get the job done. Give us a ride report when you get a few miles on that baby.

That's really good to hear. I've never ridden one, but when I saw it and sat on it, I really liked it. Then I started researching it, and the more I read, the better I like it. For a brief moment I considered the weeStrom, but decided to spend the extra 2k and get the big bike. Being able to buy this bike outright makes selling the HD a lot more palatable. I can see keeping it for a long time.
A call goes out to the Road Warrior to handle the hooligans... oh wait, he's just some lame actor who couldn't do sh&t. Ah well, we just have to hope Darwin gets 'em.
Adios, Mike the Bike

Right on time, Mr. Ryuichiro Nozaki arrived to buy the Low Rider. He gave it a good looking over, then ran over to the nearby Bank of America to get the funds. The bike is now going to be shipped via air to Japan, where it will be resold to a Japanese collector. Lou, as Mr. Nozaki is known here in America, said he has two buyers very interested.

Pretty mixed emotions about it for sure. On the one hand, I am excited about getting a new bike, on the other, that HD and I were partners in some pretty amazing expisodes over the last 14 years. Much of it was the type of thing you just can't post on a website, some of it was awful...like being broken down in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. One of these days I'll try to write up "Mike the Bike's" story. It should be pretty good.

In the meantime, the local Suzuki dealer has turned out to be filled with pathological liars. First they said they had two DL1000's. Pick your color, Mr. Moore, blue or back. They took my deposit and then announced that they really only had a blue one in Tampa, about 4 hours away. Then they told me their guy was on his way with the truck to get it. By happenstance, the store manager walked up and started yelling at the saleshole in front of me about how in the hell he planned to get the bike across the state. Guess he didn't realize I was the buyer. Now they're making up more lies about the delivery. I have to believe that if someday, someone opens a business selling cars and/or motorcycles and/or boats in an honest, open, straightforward manner, Rod Serling will rise from the grave and do a new episode of "The Twilight Zone."

Thanks, I feel better now.
