Seriously though, I guess I'd have to agree with Sean. Even the new rider on the Harley may have been taking risks that were a little too high in general - I don't know how fast he happened to be going, but I know I routinely see guys going down two-lane rural roads at night as fast as they would during the day. Now maybe some guys have much better night perception than I do, but I'll say that for me I tend to back off some at night, finding my ability to judge exact distances and speeds not as precise in darkness than in the light of day, not to mention making reading the road ahead of you from a long way off that much harder. I believe it's called "out-riding your headlights".

I'd bet a year's salary you are correct.
I don't know who originally wrote it but I have the following sign on my cubicle:

"There is no 'idiot proof' - only 'idiot resistant'.

The ingenuity of idiots knows no bounds."
Re: Defending British Motojournalist and Html for Dummies

I thought you were an Orange County guy Capt.?

You know where the Burger Barn is. Is there one in Chicago too?

Slap slap slap.

Just let KP be the idiot he is. You'll end up in the same mental hospital as him if you keep replying.
Another quote I've love goes :

There are no stupid questions....

but there are a lot of inquisitive idiots!
>The original CB750, while outdated by

>today's standard's never made as much

>power as a lightly modified Dyna.

Lemme get this straight. So the Dyna is not underpowered because if you buy some tune-up parts you get as much power than a 30-year old Jap bike of half the size?

Hey I have a stock Fat Boy and swopping bikes the other day with a Triumph Thunderbird owner was truly bloody EMBARRASING. I knew there would be some difference but...

Re: Defending British Motojournalist and Html for Dummies

Sort of both, actually. I live in SoCal (I just moved from Orange County to the 909) but I'm originally from Chicago, and I go back there often enough to visit family that I could almost still be a resident.
Re: now to wax philisophic

So in other words, just about everythign tht makes life enjoyable, including the literacy which enables us to participate in this forum, the technology that creates motorcycles and computers, and the collective effort needed to build and regulate the roads and create the conditions for workable markets to exist, are not the result of nature or our own efforts, but of human cooperation through society. Maybe we're not all the rugged individualists we suppose afterall.
Oh I agree completely Sean. Here in Minneapolis I recently witnessed three accident in which one resulted in the death of the young man (not three hours after he purchased a new R1). None of the riders had taken a MSF course and they all recently just received there learners "permit".
Hey, the point is that some newby runs out and buys a Harley and then they often bolt a bunch of Screaming Eagle stuff on and then they get themselves in serious trouble. 70HP is more than enough to get someone in hot water really fast regardless of the displacement or how old the design is or any other arbitrary consideration. Especially on a bike as heavy as a Harley.

Just because an R1 may get 140HP doesn't mean that 70HP doesn't have serious danger potential. Most people kill themselves off at far less than 100 mph.
Re: Ignorance Is Not a Tort

No he's not a liberal. He just votes for them, stumps for them and supports their social, fiscal and foreign policies.

But he's not a liberal.
Re: Defending British Motojournalist and Html for Dummies

Does this make me a liberal? Or is George Bush a true Republican/Conservative?

I am for a balanced budget (George Bush isn't).

I am for small government (George Bush has grown the government)

I am for going to war when we have to not when we want to (George Bush isn't)

I am for keeping seperation of Church and State (George Bush isn't)

I love guns and for gun rights (George Bush is for it).

I don't care if gays want to marry (George Bush is for it)

So you tell me are my views liberal or libertarian or conservative. This country was founded on religous freedom, liberty, guns, and the prusuit of happiness.

Re: Buy a Honda

I am trying talk my wife into buying an Element and trading in the van. They look cool to me and like the fact they are lower to the ground than regular SUVs.
Ideological Purity Tests

So, because GW has offended your conservative precepts, you are rooting /voting for a Demoncrat who is widely believed to have the most liberal voting record in the Senate. Umm, the logic is somewhat bewildering...Do you really think a Kerry Administration would reduce the size of the Federal Government, pull out of Iraq, expand gun owners rights to own fully automatic assault weapons, and reduce taxes???
Re: Does this make me a liberal? Or is George Bush a true Republican/Conservative?

So vote for Michael Badnarik. Someone's got to; it's not a wasted vote--"every vote counts!"

Of course, if voting really could change everything, they'd make it illegal....
