I usually flip my bright/low beam a few times and it will catch the optical sensor into giving me a green light. Usually the weight of the bike should trip the other type of sensors but if the road has been repaved without moving the sensor close to the top then the light won't turn green even for some cars so just be safe & go.

Um, what about putting a magnet on the bottom of your bike the the rest of us do? You could always have your passenger get off and press the pedestrian button...
