Don't worry.

Just like all the wheelchair bound people will miraculously stand up and walk during a Kerry presidency (Mein Fuhrer, I can walk!) the Kook will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes with yet another round of solipsisms.

It's easy to be right all the time when you are the only conscious entity in the universe.

Check out the Buell thread that JB started a couple of days ago. Kook is vomiting all over that one.

Yeah, but don't forget that the power the sportbikes bikes develop can get even a very experienced rider in over his head in an awful hurry. Hotshot sportbike brakes are less effective at 160mph than the merely adequate brakes on a cruiser travelling at 80 mph.

A modern sportbike gives far less margin for error. A foolish choice of bikes for a newby. Very foolish.

Not surprising when you see that some of the Wingers have $100K worth of chrome doodads bolted onto their rolling Barcaloungers.

Them too.

Although I think the prize goes to the Wingers. Some of them even have accessory training wheels.

Fringed windshields with matching armchaps put the Geezergliders in the running though.

I believe that the argument was that on the street peaky 600 sportbikes are likely to be ridden so far out of the powerband that crusiers should out accelerate them with immediate throttle response while the sportbiker is searching for the right gear.

That argument wouldn't apply to those stalwart and doughty he-men who ride liter class sportbikes like the venerable CBR1000F.

No one is condemning sportbikes anyhow. But when you are faced with The Compleat Idiot(tm) who claims that sportbikes are superior to everything in every way under all conditions I can see how it might appear that way. Plus, many of the arguments are simply vehicles to get The Resident Idiot's(tm) underwear in a wad.

Re: After all, you can only ride one at a time.

Or it means that she's just sucking up to the robber baron sugar daddy who pulls up to the spa in the BMW 700 series.

The industry may be forced to accept "voluntary limits" (a euphemism for a method of deflecting the threat of govt regulation).

This way you may see more bikes like the Rocket III. "Only 130 HP, officer." But with 150 ft-lbs of torque at 500 rpm. Heh heh.

Good opportunity!

While in Vietnam they can tour the Vietnamese War Museum where John Kerry's picture hangs in a place of honor. An honored ally of the North Vietnamese communists.

Remember the million people who fled Vietnam after the Commie takeover, to avoid imprisonment (re-education) or execution? A direct result of the actions of people like Ramsey Clark, Jane Fonda and, yes, John Kerry.

And let's not forget the fallout in Cambodia where 20-30 percent of the population was slaughtered by communists while the UN and the "compassionate people" wrung their hands. Also a result of the Fondas and Kerrys and their ilk. Those self-proclaimed experts who said with such authority and conviction that a communist takeover couldn't possibly be worse than resisting a communist takeover. This in spite of the fact that Soviet Communism had slaughtered millions across the globe in a methodical fashion that was as predictable as the sunrise.

These are just the sort of people we need running our foreign policy.

Re: KPaul's rebuttal to longride.

I'm so sick of those stupid statements about braking that I could puke. I've can't think of a bike I've ridden with disc brakes that I couldn't haul to a screeching halt in a hurry. For that matter the old doubleleading drums were also efficient stoppers. So what if it requires a hard squeeze rather than two fingers?

Sportbike brakes are designed to withstand hard and virtually constant extreme use without failing. Streetbikes don't require that ability to dissipate the high heat loads. So that whole "better brakes" argument is just plain stupid.

Which makes it the perfect argument for Kook.

Skill trumps any supposed "advantage" anyhow.

And that idiotic reliance on magazine generated 0-60 times is another sore point. As if Kook is going to even come close to the under 3 second 0-60 the pro riders put up for the mags. So what i4 the 5'4" 135lb pro can get a Ninja through the 1/4 mile one half second faster than the XB12R? 1/2 sec? Kook's incompetent launching ability (which is where a drag race is truly won or lost) loses him a least a second or two to start with.

What rot.

I don't think that there even was a 600 class when Reagan was president. Most people still wanted real motorcycles back then in the Good Old Daze.

Jeez, longride. I didn't know that an innocuous post on Motorcycle Online made you personally responsible for causing much of the death and carnage on our highways.

Re: In other news. O'Rielly tagged with sexual harrassment charges

Well, what do you expect from someone who believes the representatives of one of the most repressive regimes on Earth, Vietnam, over 200 plus decorated American vets.

If communist regimes are noted for anything (besides brutal slaughters of large numbers of human beings) it is propaganda lies.

The problem is that we live in a society where it seems that every little special interest group thinks it has the right to dictate the behavior of an entire nation. Not enough regular people say, "Mind your own business" and then throw out the meddling politicians who cater to these interests. So we are faced with a situation where we either must take action to curb the worst excesses of the irresponsible or the govt will come in as it usually does with a heavy handed action that hurts everybody.

Maybe the AMA should promote tiered licensing. I don't know for sure what should be done. But I think something's gotta be done. It's better to be proactive. It tends to make the politicians back off.

I guess the memory is the first thing to go.

Yeah, there were some 600s around but they didn't really take off 'til later, or am I wrong about that too?

When was the first 600 racing series started?

Re: Not quite. Avoiding dangerous situations for Dummies and out of touch Utah resid

I have no idea what The Illiterate Idiot(tm) posted to me (I seldom read the responses) but I can guess.

Whatever it is it's just more of the same from an idiot with two years experience who thinks he can lecture someone with 40.

Just like he tries to lecture me about gunboats and Vietnam. Or his typical sophomoric political crap. Or, heck, just about any subject. The less he knows the more he asserts how right he is.

What a maroon.

Look, you have to take into account the long history some people have here with Kook and his pointless insulting diatribes. It becomes more an exercise in baiting a demented bull than actually making a realistic argument.

All the arguing over these things is pointless anyhow because:

1) Modern motorcycles have quite adequate acceleration and braking for real world situations. No bike is particularly "safer" than the next.

2) A good experienced rider will be able to ride reasonably safely no matter what he rides.

3) An idiot is going to get bashed up no matter what he rides.

I liken motorcycles to airplanes in many ways. And as Chuck Yeager liked to say, the person with the most hours in the ****pit wins.

Experience is more important than machine.
