I came across this last night. If the article rings true we may see some interesting new bikes out there.

I know me and the negative waves. We won't see these bikes for precisely the reason we see illegal immigrants coming across the border. The former won't be purchased while the latter will continue to be hired. Too bad.
Interesting to see BMW pursue the lower priced market. Good idea actually. BMW has an aging public similar (but not as drastic) to HD's. Offering bikes that younger buyers might actually afford is a good thing.

Now if they just fix those darned hubs. Heh heh. And ditch the canbus. Or at least stop using the public to beta test it.
That second paragraph scares me, the one starting with the sentence: "Despite initially denying it, BMW has now admitted that they have the engines for the G650Xcountry made in China." Last time I checked, Chinese manufacturing was not synonymous with quality.

If BMW ensures that their standards of part acquisition and assembly are met then quality bikes can be built in China or anywhere else.

Could be worse. Could be built in Detroit by sarnali's kin.
Ha Ha very funny............

The new Trophy looks sounds interesting in concept anyway, we'll have to see how it turns out. The last version, 96~03 was a work of art....

It's a tough call with Chinese stuff, I'f got a 4 ton floor jack I bought about 15 years ago that still works fine and a bench vice I've welded bent and beaten on for years with no trouble. On the other hand decent metalurgy and casting for rudimentry tools like a vice is miles away from decent metalurgy, casting and assembly of a hi compression engine. I guess we (or BMW) will see, there's certainly no reason the Chinese CAN't put out a competitive product, so far they seem happy with pot-metal junk.

I guess the Bonneville/ Thailand connection is done unless they start building the watercooled ones there too.
