Factory hard luggage for the VFR...Never thought I'd see it. What are the chances the VFR also lost 80 pounds? The styling is nice, I can't tell if the bike is more sport oriented or not. The new Blade also looks pretty good, but the rear "fender" is rather hideous. Looks like an R6-type piece in that the whole thing can be removed, blinkers and all. LED tail light is neat, too. The one at the top of my list, however, is the SP-2. It doesn't look like a lot has changed. I was hoping for factory high-mount pipes, but that's a bit unrealistic, I suppose.

Honda needs the Hornet 900 in the US bady, they are the only ones not playing in the Naked bike market in the US and it looks like a nice alternative to the others. The new ST and VFR look nice, wish I could read what the changes were. I wonder how the new ST will stack up to the Futura, it doesn't look as sporty and light.

Though I admire their engineering prowess, I've never been a fan of Honda's motorcycles (or cars, for that matter) because they seem a bit boring and antiseptic.

I _wanted_ to like the current VFR, but aside from the swingarm it never did much for me.

However, the 2002 model VFR has completely changed my mind. I love the new bike! The "edgy" styling is fresh without going overboard (like the Futura). The under-seat exhaust is very trick, complementing the single-sided swingarm to give the bike an exotic look. Cornering clearance shouldn't be a problem! V-TEC should give it nearly perfect power characteristics. The bike is large enough to tour on yet small and sporty enough for commuting and Sundays in the twisties.

Finally, hard luggage is available!!! And it comes with a centerstand!

I'm sold....this bike fits my needs perfectly.

Becaues I had to kill 5 minutes before a meeting:

Translation of the VFR info:

-James

(forgive the formatting.. cut-n-paste ain't always so great)

==================================

The VFR (known in passed like VFR750F), one of the Honda moreloved than always from the public, debuttò in 1986 in the garment of Heir (but with the chassis in aluminum) of revolutionary VF750F, than since 1983 had impressed the world of the fans, dominating the Superbike contests for three years. Since the prestigious debut, the VFR

has been every important subordinate modifications four years, until

reaching the " Tourer Sport " to high technology with motor to injection that, from 1998 today, has earned the respect and the admiration of migliaia of gotten passionate - much to gain the title of "

Motion of the Year " of the category on the specialistic heads " Motorcycling " (two times: 2000 and 2001) and " MotoSprint " (2001). The VFR, particularly popular in Europe, has been always applauded like the model " Hi-Tech " of tip of the Honda, justified position still more from the current version - the most sold than always. From

carried out searches interviewing the owners of this motion and of " competitors " of the category, we discover that nearly the half of these possessed already a Honda, and many possessed just the VFR before (previous version). All have emphasized the importance of the SuperSport performances and the qualities in the Touring with passenger, soffermandosi moreover on the sophisticated technology, the arrogant quality of construction and the optimal reliability like

peculiarity of the VFR. The VFR is known like a sport versatile that, on the mountain hairpin curves, can easy hold the step of the fastest

SuperSport in circulation. However, last the two generations of the more and more large and powerful VFR have been accompanied proliferare of SuperSport, and the VFR has widened the own customers thanks to Touring abilities that concur to them to cover great distances in absolute comfort, bound together to absolute performances of all respect. This great harmony of performance and comfort has allowed them to catch up tantissimi customers, than ne they have known to

recognize and to appreciate the highest qualitative standard. Asking interviewed the which improvements they had intentional to bring on

new VFR, many have expressed one general and complete satisfaction for the current model. Insisting but on the topic, they are little for time jumped elements of extreme interest outside. Between the voices cited we find: In the design, one greater exaltation of the characteristics sport of the VFR and its arrogant general qualities. One answer of the more powerful motor from the bottoms to the medium regimes. A smaller

consumer and one greater autonomy. To be able to arrange of a set of lateral ags (originals!) in the color of the motion and with the same ones, arrogant qualities of planning and construction. Cupolino a more high, dedicated above all to the pilots of greater stature. Adjustable and configurabile posterior Monoammortizzatore in simple way and express for the conditions Sport, Touring and Viaggi in two. Greater equipments of emergency in order to reduce the theft risks. The planners therefore have totally redesigned the new donandole VFR look a sport one from large appeal, than the very integral one to the increased Touring abilities on the long distances, and not only destined to the pilot but also to the passenger and the baggages of both!

I like like that honda has finally brought v-tec to their bikes, but i am a little disappointed by the results. I was hoping for some serious horsepower gains in the vfr, but i was surprised to find that it was about the same as the old model, and only low end torque was increased. I think if they can refine the technology enough for these bikes, they can lower the displacement, while making more power. They do this in their cars, which get better mileage and weigh less than larger engines of similar, so why not try it with the bikes?

This is not the VTEC system as used in Honda cars. It looks to be the same as the system used in the Japanese domestic bike CB400 "Super Four" where 2 valves remain shut until (it looks like 7000 rpm from the article) a certain rpm is reached, then oil pressure completes the connection from the valve stem to the cam face. As you can see, there is not an actual change in valve timing or lift, just the increased breathing ability of 4 valves per cylinder at high rpm, while the 2 valves at low rpm maintain maximum intake velocity. Also, I know of at least 2 VFR riders who wore the sides of the tire pretty well.

Ok, that previous post was supposed to be a HTML table .... MO Staff.. help !!!

But is you compare 2001/200 VFRs on the hondaitalia site, the only diffences are:

Maz power : +2Kw = + 2.7 HP

Front form 43mm instead of 41mm

Weight : 213/218 kg instead of 208

Brake description for 2002 is missing the phrase "sistema Dual-CBS". Does that mean no linked brakes ?
