Wow! Cool tracks AMA should put a race in Houston. Texas is a such large important market...

I think the layout looks utterly boring... what did they do, let some kid play with rulers and corner radiuses?

All it is is one off the shelf corner radius after the next, connected by perfect straights?

No sweepers (well, except that one feeble attempt) no super "s", no accelerating radius leading the the next corner... just boring, plain forward off the shelf design with no character and no life... Why not build another NeckCar road course... that couorse seems to be about as exciting as the typical NASCAR oval...

You make a great point. I guess I am most positive about having a "proper" race track (Mladin voice) in a large market. In addition, these types of tracks sometimes provide the best racing i.e. multiple racing lines and places to pass... like EuroSpeedway in East Germany..

It does have potential, but the turns need to be reconfigured to be of differeing radius. Shorter courses need to be made through the use of connecting roads. I don't want to be a club racer on a 3 mile course. But it is good to see a new track being built. I wish that we in Oregon could get someone to do the same.

I must be missing something here - of the 20 turns, there are 12 different radii amongst them. Of the "repeats", there are four (4) 145ft. radius turns, five (5) 125ft. radius turns, and two (2) 185ft. radius turns.

See: http://www.libertymotorsportspark.com/Track Layout.pdf

This is in *3* miles of track. Granted, there should be some crossovers to divide the track up a bit - 3 miles is a long bit of rowing on a gearbox for club racing (SCCA and the like). Something this size could have at least two dividers.

Otherwise, this looks like a very fast and challenging track - the NASCRAP boys will still have to "hire out" drivers to run this one.

what's wrong with a 3 mile course? I think I prefer longer courses.

Is it just me or is there a really dangerous corner on the MSR Houston track?

If you see the Panoz video there's a left-hander onto the pits/small straight that curves directly into a freaking wall!!

Great for sliding a motorcycle into or bouncing a car off of. Genius design.

That's not to say other tracks are safe, just saying that if you're building a new track at a time when a racer's health is more of an issue than it used to be (maybe I'm wrong), you can do something intelligent about it.

Why are there beautiful tracks in countries all over the world like Qatar, Maylasia, Czech republic (former Iron Curtain), South Africa etc. and North America is saddled with modifed Nascar tracks and uninspired layouts? How many motorcycle fans are in Qatar??

It's probably not what you think - but a run that takes 2-3 minutes to complete, and you have eleventy-five different cars waiting to take a run...........

Not to mention the timing nightmare that happens when you are staging multiple cars to run consecutively, and the guy in front spins-out (ARRRRGH!!! I was all set to make FTD!!!).

Mostly, just the frustration factor - not necessarily some safety issue. At the SCCA Nationals last year in Topeka, most of the "fast guys" had runs in the 30-40 second range, and they staged cars ~15-20 seconds apart (mem'ry here).

Plus, if you have a couple of "crossroads" that divide the track, you can have 2 courses going at the same time - easily 4 cars running at any given moment.

Hey, hey, HEY! I'm one of them pans... erm, ah,..... Car Guys!

If they were competing directly against each other, it would be different. Competing against the clock is the name of the game, even in Pro Solo.
