WOW

First, the Rocket III and now this? Maybe that factory fire they had a while back lit a fire under somebody rear end.

It's nice to see a company with grande huevos! Go forth and conquer, Triumph.

Interesting, if not exactly inspiring design.

If the text is correct, Hinkley is finally tring to get unique, to try to differentiate itself from other manufacturers, but I don't think going after the Hyabusa is the way to go. IMO they should stick to the 3 cyl. on all their bikes. Style wise, they need to consolidate some common thread throughout their line, this looks like something different, at least on that mark. Maybe a design effort to test public reaction, and redesign the rest of the fleet?

hopefully this will push suzuki to tweak the 'busa

considering the new R1 (and gixxer1K for that matter) matches or beats 'busa power on 300cc less, it's about time suzuki woke up and updated the old mill to 225hp+... i only care because i want to use the motor in a track car. on two wheels all of this is madness. my 75 hp 900SP and 90hp 748 are both faster than i am so i don't need more power in a bike...

the triumph motor would not be as useful to me though - because of the higher price tag it's less likely to be bought by squids who'd crash it in the first 500 miles and that's what ensures a ready supply of 'busa motors, or alternatively makes buying a brand new bike and parting it out on e-bay financially attractive.

so yeah, uhm, THANKS, triumph :)

Agreed. They're obviously trying to step up their level of competition for the big four. I'm sure that everyone has seen their new ads featuring new (cheaper) prices for all of their existing models. Now, we learn about these two new bikes and it certainly appears that they are sharpening their rising son sickle...

Re: hopefully this will push suzuki to tweak the 'busa

so just turbo a busa motor. they are getting 300hp/150 ft-lbs reliable street motors out of it, or 500hp 225+ft-lbs race motors.

Question!

What about the self-imposed ban among the Japanese manufacturers to limit top speed at 187, or whatever it was? Does Triumph someone get a pass on this because they aren't one of the Big Four? If memory serves, the whole self-imposed embargo came about as a means of preventing the EC from limiting top speed.

nah, don't want to turbo

not yet anyway. a complete brand-new motor with all electricals and even a dash recently cost me $4K by buying a new bike and parting it out. a turbo kit would cost an additional $5K+ and a whole lot of fiddling. i'd rather be able to get a normally aspirated 225hp factory-reliable motor for the original $4K :)

the new R1 is looking even more attractive actually, i bet i could get a 180hp mill for under $3K with everything i need to run it including the battery....

Re: Question!

It will be interesting to see if the other guys now violate said ban as well. Besides, there is no similar ban among cage manufacturers, yet there's almost no concern about a goverment imposed limit on top speed for those.

It's bloody classist is what it is. The high performance motorcycle brings the capability for speed into the hands of the average man, rather than just the fantastically rich.

It makes me giggle though, to think that my $13k Yamaha Warrior can smoke a $180k Ferarri.
