And, BTW, Adios to the Harley Factory Team. VR1000s did finish, though.

Anyone else find it odd that they curled up and died right after the V-Rod engine debuted?

Actually 2 out of 3 finished.

On one had I'm glad that they are punting on a non-competitive bike, but I'm also perplexed why the sole major American motorcycle manufacturer can not produce a competitive machine. (V-Rod engine designed by Porshe)

Virginia International Raceway... WOW!

Did anyone else find that track exceptional for motorcycle racing?

I'm not a track racer so I have no first hand experience with that type riding but I was very impressed with this track: Narrow where it needed to be, wide in the right places and proper runoff areas where needed. What was it… something like 19 turns? 150 miles! Pit stop required! Kewl! Look out Daytona. I saw four or five spots around the track I’d like to set up some chairs, my tripod, camera and long lens then just spend the day shooting everything that comes past.

Laguna, Willow and now VIR. It doesn’t get much better. I’ve haven’t been to Virginia yet but I hope that next year the race will be during the summer so my Wife and I can get to it.

I'm really curious what others thought of this track both as spectators as well as riders.

Re: Virginia International Raceway... WOW!

Spectating-wise, it's pretty good. Excellent sightlines, and lots of places to get good action shots from...bring a telephoto lense and get to business! As for riding, I went to a Team Pro-Motion trackday on the South course, and it freaking rocks! I rented an Aprilia RS250 for the day, and have decided my budget for next year needs to be amended to include more track days and possibly a used RS250.

The only caveat is that VIR is over 700 miles from me...bummer!

Re: Virginia International Raceway... WOW!

It did look like a very nice track, with lots of character. Good for spectators, a beautiful country setting. I live about 500 miles from there, and would like to go in the next couple of years. I attend the bike races at Mid-Ohio regularly, not the best surface but a great track, fantastic for spectators. I've also been to Laguna twice for WSC, and Willow for an AMA national. I'd also like to get to Road America (Elkhart Lake) and Road Atlanta for a race sometime.
