I have to agree with sachiwilson, is the tire down to the wear bars or do the inspectors not know what an m/c tire looks like? 1600 miles is redicules, I get pissed if I get less than 10k out of a tire.

Granted I live in a cooler climate and the bike is my main transportation so I don't hammer it, but still my bike and me together is probably 800lbs and I've got 12k so far on an Avon with a few thousand miles left. From my experiance with D205's and D220's they stick well because they're soft, but they also wear out faster for the same reason. If I were you I'd get Pilot Roads or Avon AV46's, even the new Diablo Strada's. Hell try Kendas if you like but I wouldn't touch a Dunlop again.

Re: F'n nails.....

Picked up a nail in my AV46 tonight on the way home, plugged it but it didn't hold so it looks like Avon AV46ST's are good for about 12k + 1 nail

I almost got stuck with a D220. Karma after what I said about them, but Cycle Gear in Tacoma has a Pilot Road for a buck fitty OTD so I'll take the wheel down there tomorrow and get it taken care of. I think the Avon would have been good for around 15k or so, just for the record..Nice tire but spendy and back ordered so looks like I'm back on Michilins.

Re: F'n nails.....

I go till they're almost at the wear bars. By that time they're getting pretty greasey feeling, specially on wet roads so I don't try to push them till they're bald. Mine held up pretty well and I was going to run them as long as I could but I guess not.

I've had good luck with Michelin's too so it's all good.

If you look at the carcass of the tire between the treads at (usually ) four points on the tire you'll see a 1/4 inch or so wide strip running across the tread. When the tread is worn down even with that strip it's considered worn out. Car tires have them too. I believe it's 3/32nds on a car tire for legal definitions, not sure on a bike tire.
