Yeah, I saw that article. The bike looked pretty good but I was some dissapointed they went with 2 valve pushrod set up instead of an OHC/4valve. After all, it is a new motorcycle - that is if it ever sees the light of day. Plus the Commando was a hot bike in its day and that tradition should be continued IMO

In the CW article Deer only needs $10 mil to make the rest of the Norton dream happen. This blog has what- 2000 subscribers. If we all send him $5,000 he's rolling. Or the AMA's 200,000+ members can send in $50 and Kenny's still rolling.

Re: Nortons in Oregon

Dude, there are much cheaper ways to get anaerobic exercise than pushing a Commando down the street.

About 10 years ago I looked into importing and getting Indian Enfields certified by the DOT, AQMD & BAR for sale here in Kalifornia.

Just the AQMD & BAR nonsense would have run in excess of 200 grand. There was also something in the AQMD rules about running the bike for 24 hours straight in an airtight shed on a dyno to measure hydrocarbon leakage (!?).

That ended it.

Two years ago I broke the kick shaft off my Superglide. Since it was kick only, I bump started it for 2 months until I got around to fixing it. Got my exercise in for sure on that stretch!

I know, you can't get an Endfield to run more than 20 minutes anyway so I canned the whole deal. Talk about your draconian bs laws that Squash enterprise.

Once I made the mistake of buying an XLCH in Virginia in the winter. As a result my right calf is about 2 times the size of my left, and I still walk with a limp.

A photo caption in the Cycle World article says "The company hopes to be selling 10,000 streetbikes per year by 2010." I guess the stories I've heard about the killer pot in Oregon are true, after all. I wonder how many bikers actually believe that the company's "hopes" will come true?

It's a cool looking bike - I remember them when I first started riding. I had a new '65 Bonneville, and Norton's looked great and were considered to be a step up, although there were a lot more races being won by Triumphs back then. I guess the target market for the new model is the same sort of person who'd buy a new "Vincent" with a Honda RC51 motor.
