In "Independence Day", black box-office champion Will Smith played would-be astronaut Captain Hiller, who with a white sidekick pilots a small alien spacecraft to the enormous alien mothership, which they blow up with an atom bomb. In "Oblivion", white box-office champion Tom Cruise played actual astronaut Captain Harper, who with a black sidekick pilots a small alien spacecraft to the enormous alien mothership, which they blow up with an atom bomb.
