Ortega might be nice with fresh pavement and passing lanes! Will of course SUCK during construction. To answer the question: will they shut down Ortega? Yes, one lane at a time, just like they're doing now. The highway is much to important to commuter traffic to close completely.
Who really cares what happens in Mexico....I'm sorry, I meant the Peoples Republic of California? Other then those forced to live there, who really wants to ride in a bunch of congested traffic anyway!
No offense, but a couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of taking the Ortega to Canyon Lake (in a car with the wife and kid).
Some guy on a Electraglide held up traffic so bad, there were finally about 30 cars stuck behind this bozo, who was trundling along at a sedate 5-10 mph in some places. And since you can't pass anywhere, we were stuck.
I gave up and pulled over for a while, not wanting to risk a stroke, or appoplectic fit.
not always. i rode back from murrietta to san juan cap today through very light rain with the top of the pass just under the cloud bases. passed two cars that pulled off for me at the pull outs, then clear sailing down to the i5. very smooth, no chippies in sight, probably because of the rain.
Or perhaps you are fortunate that you don't. Abe I was born in that briar patch, and I don't like to go there any more. If you want to ride some really great roads, you need to come out and visit me in No. Cal. and I will show you the holy grail of back road motorcycling. VWW
Let's see, the congested HIGHWAYS, awesome backroads, great weather, beautiful scenery & diversity of California vs. the uptight, NASCAR lovin', Wrestlemania watchin', 4 month riding season havin' ("W" supporting!?!) RED states... I'll take CA. every time, Ortega highway or not.
