Remember I was an airdale, so at Souda Bay we were always in line to jump off #4 elevator into the cool. clear med. Once I went down so far, about 30-40 feet that the whole bottom of the Indy was outlined against the blue bottomless ocean. Scared the sh!t out of me. Had a tough time climbing up the cargo net the Bosuns put over the side on the elevator. Never went in again after that.

And real bugs in the "bug juice". The roaches didn't drink that much though.
I liked it when you'd be taking a shower and the pipes would rumble, and lose pressure, then scalding JP5 would shoot out, and no soap in the world would lather up on that stuff.
We use to sneak down to the snipes head on the 4th deck below the mess deck (the 4-0 deck?) where there was always hot water, and no JP5. If they found out we were airdales they'd shut the water off somehow and send us back to the 03 level all sudsy.
