WTF!? He deserved to die because he did not use his front brake?

Ok, next time I see a ricer not use his indicator I will run him off the road. Or just dare come to a halt in front of me when I want to run a red light - I flatted you like a motherf*cker.

Passing on a double yellow, if done with some discretion, can be perfectly safe. California mountain roads, for instance, used to be largely single striped, leaving passing discretion to the driver. That changed because of lawsuits against the California road authority CALTRANS. What did CALTRANS do in response? Stripe double yellow almost everyplace, using AASHTO standards to determine where. Those standards assume the passing vehicle has the acceleration of a Volkswagen Microbus, so only long, long straightaways get striped for passing. For motorcycles this is absurd because as as a group they accelerate so quickly as to need only short passing areas.

The result is CALTRANS doesn't get sued and no one can pass on mountain roads legally, even if it is possible to do it very safely.

Re: Takes two to tango?

Maybe I've got this all wrong, but the article did say that the biker passed the minivan and then the SUV. Right? If so, what's wrong with that? I'd rather be in front of an SUV and minivan- those things are hard to see ahead of. While passing the SUV, the SUV driver sped up, right? Was the biker supposed to ride between the minivan and SUV? That's a bad place to be, too. When the SUV repassed the biker, sure, the biker should have just pulled off onto the road side and let the worm (SUV driver) on about his business. Had he done so, he'd still be alive today. But that's just judgement call or whatever. The biker made a poor choice, but was not in the WRONG. Had he been trying to "tango" with an SUV, the SUV would never have been able to accelerate enough to repass him. Sounds like the biker LET the SUV driver repass him, deciding not to "tango" with the unstable idiot in the SUV. There's clearly only one villain in this story- the SUV driver.

Re: Thoughts from Gabe

got to agree here, my triple isn't nearly as fast as an r1 but I can do a buck20 and put enough trafic between me and whoever I pissed off to keep out of a confrontation. Unless there was trafic comming the other way it sounds like passing this ahole would have been in order. Beter than slamming into the back of him.

Assuming lightning reflexes it should have taken over a second to make a 111 foot skid, (88 feet per second is 60mph) not to mention as you slow down it takes even longer to cover the distance. i'd guess he got target fixation.

All monday morning quarterback crap asside it does us all well to remember that someone is dead for little more than offending the perpetrator.

the dipsht in the explorer should be made to comute in L.A. trafic for the rest of his life (guessing not for long) aboard a small poorley maintained scooter! Lets see him express his road rage then! (If you think la trafic is too meek feel free to insert whatever third circle of hell piece of tarmac you wish.)

No he most certainly did NOT deserve to die or even be injured at the hands of some out of control dipstick. If you read down a bit further you will see that several other members of the list had the same thought. It seemed to me that there was enough room at those speeds and distances to avoid a high impact crash. That is all I meant.

This is such a sad commentary on American life in general. The guy had rage over a workers compensation case. I am sure some crooked Independent Medical Examiner screwed him. An SUV that doesn't obey the law. A jerk that uses an SUV as a weapon and kills a guy.

When are Americans going to wake up to the fact that they are the angriest and most aggressive people on the planet? And one of the most corrupt. I had a guy try to run me over multiple times on my bike because I went by him on a 2 lane offramp bridge. And I never even broke the speed limit. Who do the cops go after? Me, as I was on a bike. He was in a suit. A witness finaly came forth and told the police that the guy in the guy tried to punch me 4 or 5 times and when he finally kicked me I pinned him on the hood of a car. A lady came forth and said she saw him try to rearend me at least 4 times. Do you think the police ever even apologized? NO WAY!!! And they let him go with no charges pending as he had a suit on.

You people need to clue in and realize why you are so angry. It's real simple. A lying medfia that is hyper-conservative and republican controlled; crappy schools that turn out stupid people; corrupt cops; loss of yor civil rights and a governmant that doesn't give a damn about its citizens unless they can right a big fat check to get them elected. Hey, take your country back and you can calm down. Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine didn't put their lives on the line for what we have now. If they were alive they would be picking up their guns to go to Washington while I am writing this.
