The saddest thing about this test is that even though the Suzuki is ahead of the other two bikes, there's no way they're going to let it win. The bike didn't win last year and it's unchanged this time around. The staff will drone on about the intangibles the other bikes supposedly have so that the Suzuki can come in last. It's like this, everyone knows the Suzuki is king, we know this. Honda goes on and on about 'performance first.' Well the Suzuki kills the Honda performance-wise. But oh, I forgot, sport bikes are supposed to double as Gold Wings for around town use. SPORT as in PERFORMANCE as in WHO CARES ABOUT ERGONMICS AND CROSS-COUNTRY PROWESS. You idiots who go on and on about how these bikes are supposed to be comfort cruisers to and from work make me sick. Go buy a different bike. Let these bikes compete the way they were intended.

P.S. Sorry if I got a little carried away. I just crashed my bike two weeks ago and tore my knee up. I tell you this not for pity, but due to the injury I'm on some mind-altering pain killers. Maybe it's the 'good stuff' talking.

Totally agree with you on everything you say including the pain drugs comment:). That's why if I only had the money to buy any of these beauties, my money would be spent on the Honda and a nice corbin seat (or put some softer foam in the stock one). Since I'd probably never take it to a track, or if I did maybe do it once or twice in my life, the Suzuki would just be a pain in the neck literally with those low clipons and high seat. Yamaha is nice, but the bars again are way too low and Kawasaki is still carburated and heavy.

What, no sweet tea!?!?!?!

I assure you it's just not the same. Putting the sugar in while the tea is warm just doesn't quite cut it. Here in the South, they brew the tea super hot WITH the sugar already mixed in, so it taste naturally sweet. When you put the little white packs of sugar in from the freakin' CERAMIC sugar holder, it just doesn't taste right. I guess you gotta be from Jorja (or close to it) to understand. It's just not the same.

Re: Yes!!!

Yeah, I gave up on them a while back. I use to check motogp.com for race times, but now eurosport.com and cyclenews.com get the times first (?) and also motogp.com charges for anything other than the timesheets and one paragraph headlines. MCN is no longer worth reading either. You have to buy the mag and they get stories a day or three late anyway.

To poor to pay attention

Maybe they are setting us up and the Suzuki will actually win. The only place the Suz didn't win was the backroads, and it was in second place after the track. So it has to win. I like the Yam, but the Suzuki earned the title. Really.

Not really, but......

What you will end up with is a bike you spent almost as much on as 500 hp '65 Chevelle which breaks alot (rocker arms, clutches, sound familiar JB?). And even then STILL get your ass handed to you by some squid with a GSXR and a couple hundred invested in NOS........

OK i already bought the yamaha (silver and black of course) so maybe im a little bias. I hope looks are taken into account here as well. I doubt the yamaha will win but im keeping my fingers crossed. I would have gladly bought one of the others if it looked half as badass!!! Enuff with the ALL PERFORMANCE NO STYLE SUZUKI!!! And why dont they do the twins in here too??? I liked it when u had the duc against the one against the 750 and so on... Great reading tho guys, best 11 bucks i ever spent.

Moment of silence.....

Little more than a week after the boys of MO were out on the Fontana circut chasing each others tails in a high speed game of mines bigger than yours, Ricky Lundgren has died. He was pronounced dead at 6:25 PM after suffering blunt force trauma to the head and chest while running in a qualifying session at the same Fontana raceway. Never forget ladies and gentlemen the possible consequences of the game we all play. My condolences go out to all of Ricky's friends and family. Ride safe and be well......

I actually agree, but to a point. If the bike handles extremely well and has more power than 3 mile island but you can't stand to sit on it for more than 20 minutes what's the point? I like to ride for HOURS at a time. Fast. On nice curvy country roads. Not just a few seconds on a dragstrip, or 20 minutes on a track, or the ten minutes back and forth to work. (who cares if it has "luggage hooks"?) I'm not looking for a GoldWing- couch-on-wheels. But, geez, I don't want to be a pretzel for a day. Besides, I bet I can pass the fatigued pretzel-guy on my "slightly" more comfortable ride....Anyway, different body types will feel comfortable on different machines, right? A 6ft guy with a 32" inseam may hate the Honda ergo's, while feeling perfectly comfy (as these bikes will allow) on the yam....hope your knee gets better....

Re: Moment of silence.....

It's creepy answering your beautiful post, but...

Maybe MO could add an In Memoriam section so friends could contribute bios and memories. They could also add a Kind rating to the Moderate list.

Thanks for this.

Dude, you are right.

I got my 1K Gixxer DESPITE of last years test, and it sure does the job.

The Yoshimura EMS and exhaust system gave it lots of extra muscle, and a proper steering damper solved the headshakes problem.

I don’t realy understand this comfort crap. It’s all about pain in the end, and believe me, my back and the gixxer are real good friends.

I also use the bike on town streets and traffic jams, and I have no complains.

It’s a great bike, and it sure kicks the competitions ass.

OK, so it will not win this years test…

Take my word as a proud owner, that’s the bike to have!!!!!!!!

Re: To poor to pay attention

True, I also believe the Suzuki is the best bike, but then it lost last year.

If it wins, this means Yamaha and Honda managed to ruin their bikes...

Maybe the guys needed the time to accept the new standards set by the gixxer, and they will grant it the title...

Re: Why No Kawasaki?

You obviously haven't read the first 3 installments of the shootout, go back and look at them if you must. I'll sum it up for you, it's basically a combination of the following.

a) They couldn't get one before they wanted to start the test.

b) They knew it would get stomped in pretty much every aspect except ergos by every other bike, so they just bestowed last place upon it by default.

Most of this is discussed in the "first impressions" part of the test, which was posted over a week ago, I haven't checked, but I'd assume there's a link to the other parts of the test at the bottom of the current story.

What tires?

What did you use for tires during the drag portion? Did you go back to stock or did you use the Pirelli's again? Did you use all 190 section tires or did you use the dual compound 180 on the gixxer again? Also, I posted this on the other board but I don't know if anyone will read it now so I'll ask again. When did you guys get the lap times at Fontana with the Suzuki before or after switching to the 180 rear? And what if any was the difference in lap times between the two tires?
