As I sit here reading this ... looking out the window of my Fremont office at the empty field that one was Baylands Raceway ..... I feel a certain envy, but thanks for helping to bring back memories of the Wednesday night drags.

How about some more info as to what RPM's you were launching at ?

More great stuff, writing-wise.

I would, however, like to echo the thoughts of a few others who would like some roll on tests. How about going one better than the print rags and doing roll-ons in more than just top gear? That would be really cool.

Lastly, to those who are sooooo hung up on the "winner," as pronounced from the Holy Mountain of MO, get a life. MO has presented oodles of data - rack and stack it on your own and pronounce your own winner. Maybe track prowress is yer bag. Great, buy the Big G. Maybe you love the looks of the R1 and don't sweat not being able to scorch the others on a track. Lovely, Yamaha has a nice financing deal for ya.

Whatever. Any "winner" is irrelevant. MO is providing the service of mucho info for US to make OUR OWN "winner" pronouncements, based upon our own circumstances and requirements.

Scooter Comparo!

>Yamaha Vino

>Honda Metropolitan

WooHoo! I've been looking for a new commuter so this is the test I have been waiting for. Make sure you include a weigh in and street vs. track vs. dragstrip and also include reader polls and subjective measurements to determine the king of the molehill.
Good article on the drag-racing. Hopefully more of the crotch rocketeers will check it out. By the way, by bone stock 96 GSXR750 ran a 10.73 here is Wisconsin in 97...methinks your air was a little moist on test day...
Well said. There are no bad bikes here. Hey, there are only superlative bikes here. Unless you are going racing (and maybe even if you are) if you're looking for a winner it's the one that hits you hardest emotionally.

I'd probably go faster on the GSXR than the other two just due to lack of experience; it's better suited to point-and-twist riding than the other two.

But if I was gonna buy one I'd buy the Honda just because it twists my personal grip harder than the others.

And damn, isn't it a great world when bikes this good cost 10 grand? These machines are cheap for what you get.

Should have chosen the Rokon Ranger

Damned straight these guys are prejudiced. They really should have picked the Rokon Ranger, dadgummit. I know it's not an open classer, nor is it a sportbike, and near as I can tell, they don't even make it any more, but by giminy, it has two-wheel drive, and I think it should have won. Anyone who disagrees with me is worse than an idiot, and makes me sick, too.
Note this: The Suzuki DID WIN.

In their notes the writers said it's probably not what they would spend their money on, and they gave their reasons and the conditions under which their choices might change.

These bikes are supposed to bea about pulling elk carcasses out of the mountains during hunting season. Anyone who disagrees with me is worse than an idiot, and makes me sick, too. Sorry if I got a little carries, but I'm on anit-psychotic medication the has been giving me since I got back from 'Nam. Maybe it's the Thorazine talking.
Re: Should have chosen the Rokon Ranger

Sorry about the double post, but when I starts mixing the Thorazine with the Whiskey, things gets a little strange.
The bikes were completely stock? No nothing?

I assume that the bikes did not require some kind of "dead man" throttle kill or any other gizmo. I'd drag race my bike if not for the throttle kill requirement (it wouldn't be hard to implement but I'm a bit too lazy). Heck, in this area cars with slicks (even if they're only in the fifteens) need driveshaft loops.
Ill have to tell that to the size six dishwater blond I had on back of my Sportster yesterday.
Re: What tires?

Aha! So you admit to cheating then!..... Just kidding thanks for the answer.
