With a 124 inch (2 liter plus 2 ci) motor, this is one chopper that just might do 150. Just don't try to turn at that speed! :)

Well, and I guess you'd have to be pretty damn strong to hang on to it in that position, too. Keeping your feet on the forward pegs would probably be the hardest part.

So after all that ranting, Sean, how come this story has a MotoGP logo on it, hmmm? Surely you're not trying to suggest...

"MotoGP is pleased to announce the addition of a new team on the circuit. The bike is a Rucker, ridden by a rider known only as 'Hammerhead'"

Choppers are cool (kinda), Wrong Sean. Having owned choppers back when they were actually consindered cool, I feel qualified to voice the following opinion. Once apon a time paisely shirts with wide collars were cool. They aren't any more. Once Earth shoes were considered comfortable. Now we know that they were bad for your back. Once choppers were considered cool. Now they are nothing but rolling anachronisms substituting for the pathetic lost male machismo of their owners. This whole Jesse James, Orange County Choppers thing has become the theater of the absurd. Sooner rather than later these rolling penile substitutes will go the way of the Beanie Baby. Mark my words. Too Many Sweets

I used to like choppers...until now. Now, they are like ****roaches. There was a time when a chopper meant an individual--not a clone company--took the painstaking time and energy to arrive a chopper they could call their now. Now, you can buy them "pre-packed" and read to eat. It all took the very life out of choppers. And every time I think of the TV series American Chopper I want to run for cover as that very show has done more to undo any good that has ever come of the chopper theme.

$34,990, 2+ litres of "power" motorcycle = 10mph slower than a stock 0.6 litre $8,500 motorcycle. Please tell me again why we are talking about chopper "speed" and "performance"

(kinda)

Anything with two wheels and a motor is (kinda) cool. Notice that in both instances I inserted the (kinda) disclaimer. I think you hit the nail on the head though... Choppers are exactly as cool as paisley shirts with wide collars, leisure suits and bell bottoms. They are cool when you ride them to a costume party.... Look everyone it's the "biker" from the Village People, isn't he cool?

Rucker Performance? Give me a break! O to $35,000 before you can say "Does this have tassels for the handlebars like that cool Tricycle down at Wal-Mart?" or (with a lisp) "Does this come with matching arm chaps for that cool Village People look?" Maybe "If I spend $35,000 can I get laid by a real Woman? For some reason my I'm so insecure that I desparately try to pretend to be a 'Tough Guy' act isn't getting me anywhere". Well I guess the speed secrets for the '05 MotoGP bikes are out!

"I'm not being politically correct"

OK, I'm going to get slammed for being a pedantic ****, and I won't argue. But it's a pet peeve, so it's worth the abuse.

"Politically correct" isn't just a synonym for "inoffensive". It means "conforming to orthodox left-wing thought." That's why the "political" part is in there. I forget who coined the phrase, but he was writing about the difficulty conservatives have in getting hired or securing tenure at colleges because of their "politically incorrect" views.

If you say, "Choppers are dumb", that is neither politically incorrect nor politically correct.

If you say, "Choppers are dumber than white-male Republican Christian Bush-voters," that is politically correct.

If you say, "Choppers are dumber than (insert racial minority group here)", that is politically incorrect.

(note that I'm not advocating any of those positions, just illustrating correct usage of the phrase.)

Flame away...

Well, actually, the story never mentioned speed. And the "performance" in the company's name could have the same meaning as in "performance art". Think of it as theater on wheels. It's "performance", not "high performance". From m-w.com, one of the definitions is "a public presentation or exhibition". That hits the nail on the head, if you ask me.

A deuce coupe hot rod probably won't outrun a new Mustang GT, either. This bike is just a "production" version of the hot rod. To the people who like this sort of thing, it's all about the look (and, to some {most?}, the looks received), and performance and usability be damned.

Different strokes for different folks.

If people buy it, ride it, and love it, why do we care? Two wheels is two wheels.... I think everybody knows that sportbikes overall out perform all motorcycles. However not everybody wishes to ride them. If they wish to ride a 35k chooper good for them.... they are at least riding.
