Re: Too Many Sweets

I agree, when my friends and I were building choppers in the 70's and 80's if you didn't build it yourself it didn't count.

Once you figured out the look you wanted you scrounged whatever parts you could find and bolted them together, then went to the Harley dealer or local shop for whatever was missing

The last one I built was a stretched '57 frame, '76 built motor and 6' over single disc narrow glide, '73 trans. with a hand shift, 3.5 gal. fat bobs, drag pipes and an oil tank off a Panhead. I had to use enduro batteries because thats all that would fit in the battery box. All painted black lacquer with purple metalflake

That's what choppers are. This store bought crap is no more a chopper than a stock Wide Glide or Low Rider. In fact you'd be better off with a a stock Dyna series or Victory Vegas, at least you'd have a bike you could put some miles on.

Rant over..........I'll take my medication now thank you.

Choppers are just old

A better Cruiser click here

If I see one more chopper series on the Discovery Channel I am going to blow chunks. They must make these shows for the Gray Pony Tail Brotherhood who can't afford a motorcycle and spend their days in front of the TV.

Old Style Cruisers (all Harleys except V-Rod)are just old. Choppers are just as old.

To be fair, I'd have to balance it with, "Choppers are dumber than fans of that fact-raping dwarf star who's three cheeseburgers away from collapsing into a singularity, Michael Moore."

John McCain just called me. He said that he'd prefer that instead of calling yourself a "McCain Republican", you should be known as a "McDermott Democrat". McCain also wanted me to thank you for being a trolling lowlife illiterate puke. So....thanks!

"MotoGP is pleased to announce the addition of a new team on the circuit. The bike is a Rucker, ridden by a rider known only as 'Hammerhead'"

lol.

But really, only our dearly departed Highwayman could ride a factory-backed Copperhead.

Re: Too Many Sweets

Hear hear. When I got out of the Nav in '71 you built your own chopper. There were a small number of custom shops building finished bikes, but we generally considered those who bought someone else's custom to be posers (heh heh). And in retrospect, the guys I saw who bought pre-built customs were always guys who were brand new to the sport and were simply dilletantes. Thay also had loads of trouble keeping their AMF products running since they couldn't turn wrenches. I doubt if it's changed much today.

How interesting. I just got a message from my cell leader at the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy that Pres. Bush is very pleased about how KPaulKook's arrogant, disjointed and insulting political campaigning has turned two more key battleground States in Bush's favor.

Heh heh. You just know that something is hopelessly out of fashion when the Discovery channel gets around to doing shows on it.

The last time choppers were cool were when I had my 3 speed Chopper bike (circa 1976). Come on old timers, that was the coolest bike for its time. It wasn't a performance bike either, however. What a joke!

BMW4VWW, very well stated. However, I feel that it is only wishful thinking that Choppers will go the way of those horrid Beanie Babies. Our society is in part constructed on its ability to create clones, followers, and poseurs. And there is just way too much marketing money behind the "cruiser" image. It's woven into consumable pop culture (redundant?) like Top 40 music. Maybe when the "Easy Rider" generation goes to the big curve (straight?) in the sky, then some of the adherance to this image will fade. No, I take that back. Lots of young bucks out there really into the image and style of the chopper bikes. And it is thanks to the likes of Jesse James and O.C. and Discovery's hype. There is waaaay too much money here for it to go away anytime soon.

I don't know, I work with a guy who watches every episode of Orange County, and he is getting board of it. They are already adding new characters, the obvious kiss of death. If you need proof remember the annoying blond kid on the Brady bunch, the annoying nephew (or whatever) on Married with Childern, or Coy and Vance on the Dukes of Hazzard. Atleast they keep Marsha, Kelly, and Daisy. Ok, forget Marsha. They all live forever........in reruns.

Damn Sean. Maybe the wedding bell blues have a hold on your butt. Just getting married, you should be cooler than a cucumber. This guy never said the bike was faster than a Hayabusa and handled better than a GSXR 1000. He just said it was better than the contraptions other guys build. As to marketing BS, he certainly wasn't the first to use it, nor will he be the last. You need a long ride. Think Alaska.
