"Same with "sleep deprivation." Where's the danger if you're alert? You don't need eight hours of sleep at your regular time to stay awake and alert, particularly on a 24 hour ride."

I fugured you would say that. Taken from Wiki:

According to a 2000 study published in the British Medical Journal, researchers in Australia and New Zealand reported that sleep deprivation can have some of the same hazardous effects as being drunk.[16] People who drove after being awake for 17-19 hours performed worse than those with a blood alcohol level of .05 percent, which is the legal limit for drunk driving in most western European countries (the U.S. and UK set their blood alcohol limits at .08 percent). In addition, as a result of continuous muscular activity without proper rest time, effects such as cramping are much more frequent in sleep-deprived individuals.

Your words, my truth.
Excellent use of Facts and Data!

So, move your dam ned controls so the good wrist does the work. If Mick Doohan can race and win with a crap body, you can ride too.
You know, I feel like a complete idiot and never really thought about doing that. I haven't been riding a long time. You made all made some really good points about people with unbelievable handicaps that are still riding. It may be awhile before I can afford to get a bike with altered controls etc. But I will not give up hope. Thank you for the stern and very hopeful comment. I really needed that as you could tell. It is easy to listen to the doctors and get upset right away. I really needed to grasp everything and think about it all before I just threw my hands up and walked away. Thank you all very much. You are right.

So, "aipupper24" has got to be wondering what the **** is going on here! "I just wanted to sell my damn bike!"
LOL.....I actually was enjoying the conversations. I am not just here to sell my bike. I am sure it looks that way and I didn't mean for it to.

It has been a little bit since I posted it for sale. I have had alot of time to think about everything since my doctor first told me all this stuff. But you guys and some riders from another forum have nicely slapped some sense into me. I don't have to give up, just take a break. I can save the money up again and one day afford to get a bike altered to fit my physical needs. I just wasn't thinking about that at the time. I haven't been riding for a long time obviously, so I am glad that I had your feedback.

Riding has always been a dream of mine. I finally got my first bike, and then less than 2 years later I was told all this stuff by my doctor. I just let it control me instead of stepping back and figuring out a way to defy the odds. I never thought about riding any different way then the way I ride now. You guys pushed me and made me realize you can always ride, it just may be a little different than before. So thank you all.

And, I am cracking up at some of the conversations here. I am never one to judge, so "sachiwilson" you do whatever it is you wanna do on your iron butt ride. Obviously you are talking, walking, riding, living life so you must be doing something right to being careful and safe. It is your life, live it however you please. I don't like people telling me how to live my life. I am gay and if people don't like it, they don't have to talk to me. I don't throw it in anyone's face so I don't really care if they have an issue with it. You GO with your bada_s self. Ride ON!!!

Heck, all this tomfoolery; I've forgotten what AJs problem was.

Farked up right wrist?

Easy day. You will probably remain able to work the throttle grip, but the front brake will be problematic. If you cannot operate the throttle grip, you may be able to rig a thumb-operated throttle, such as those found on snowmobiles, personal watercraft and ATVs.

Check into a linked braking system. It may cost a bit to have one fabricated, but if you find someone handy, they may be able to modify a system from a "donor" bike. Then you will operate both front and rear brakes from the foot brake. Even easier, have the foot brake operate the front brakes only. They are the bigger stopping force anyhow.

As my late Father-In-Law would say, "It ain't no hill for a stepper!"

Good luck!

OR, you could move it all to the left handlebar like my friend Brett Cole has done:

YouTube - one armed motorcycle racer

This Man is an Inspiration to us All. Seriously.

I love Motorcycling. I mean, I really LOVE Motorcycling - but I can't say with any certainty that I would be able to get back up on a bike after the crash he had.

Brett had his ENTIRE shoulder removed after the crash - what you see as a "shoulder" on him is just muscle-mass the Doctors arranged so it would look more-normal - there are no bones there, nothing that can support a prosthetic, not even a cosmetic one. He's also had to deal with substantial severe "phantom limb" pain.

Within a few weeks of his coming-home, he was already wrenching on some of his bikes (on his own!), and even was straddling, starting, and attempting to find the "friction zone" - all with his left hand. He devised the throttle and brake/clutch on the left side, a few of his other friends helped him to set it up - Dude was a Natural in the saddle before, this hasn't really taken much away from his Moto-talents.

I would not be surprised to see him compete on a Professional level in the next few years.

Brett is 20-years younger than me, but he's one of my personal Heroes.

He Rawks!
