Well, do they have a state lottery? Is gambling legal in TX? If not, he's right, unfortunately.

Yes, it is idiotic. It's not as though it's promoting gambling; there aren't thousands of people buying multiple hands to get a better chance of winning; it's just a fundraiser. But oh well; one more example of the state saying anything fun is illegal....

Laws tend to be written by people and they can correct the situation by allowing exceptions to gambling rules. Until the changes are made though, the laws are being broken. It is then up to the enforcement folks to decide if they actually want to do something about the violations and then to the judicial folks to decide if there is a punishment to hand out. Loops holes you could drive a heard of Texas longhorns through. To disregard the laws that exist is anarchy and we really don't need that.

Dear AG,

Seems you are willing to squash the dreams of the "less fortunate" to prove a point. One thing, what's the point? Thousands of people participate in Poker Runs every year. Some benefit children, some fallen soldiers, some actually benefit fallen police officers. So, why do you think that poker runs are such a blight on the map? Mr. AG, it appears you have entered the territory of the Grinch. Just remember this the next time a police officer or firefighter has an accident or, worse, is killed in the line of duty. I'm sure the state benefits will take care of ALL expenses and the families won't have to worry about finding charitable people willing to help.

Regards,

A Fellow Motorcyclist

Hell, texas is #1 in killing murderers, and more power to them.Sorry my state NEVADA,has you beat!Casino,s here make billions every quarter, but ask them for a 1/2% tax raise to benefit the infrastructure [like roads, schools],they tighten up their backsides tighter than John Wayne going to prison. So we have proposed a lottery for years to help pay for stuff, nope they shot it down.Indians want to open up a casino,[after all this was their land] on their own reservations, nope they shoot that down too.Hell they even go to lobby other states against Indian gambling er excuse me gaming, but they can build casinos all over the United States, witness Biloxi,Miss. all those casinos were mostly vegas owned.

I'd have to disagree with the above. I think we need LOTS more of that, to avoid becoming the sheeple the Gov wants us to be. Hell there were, and still are, plenty of unfair laws. Jim Crow comes to mind along with many other laws meant to control and subdue. If somebody doesn't take a stand, then we all lose.

Another example of society lashing out at cops.

The Blue Knights were singled out.... probably after the complaint of some pissed off citizen.

- "Look, look, the cops are breaking the law"

- The cops shouldn't have shot him even though the guy was swinging a knife.

- The cops should have got a search warrant

- The cops should have "let him go"

- The cops are profiling arabs, blacks, red cars, (fill in the blank), etc.

Now the cops are doing something admirable and some anti-authority citizen is making a stink.

Amen, brother. People are getting robbed, shot, stabbed, raped, and menaced and ripped off in ways that are too numerous to list, and we've got some nimrod tying up God knows how many resources on an activity that does absolutely no one any harm.

Out here in California, San Francisco is headed for a record number of homicides, and every politician and police official is busy running in circles, waving their arms, and calling press conferences about a bunch of dumb ass cops who made a politically incorrect video as a send off for a retiring cop.

It's not like these people don't have anything else to do.

Re: Texas Poker Foolishness

Certainly a lot of Texans wouldn't mind California's separation. Or, for that matter, the separation of Texas. You folks are welcome to continue socializing the nation, and we'll just quietly bow out and enjoy our barbeque.
