I'd try and get some good industrial penetrating oil on the shaft and tap it all around with a hammer, wait a day or two then use the hammer on the top and bottom to try to rock it loose.
stuck alternator stator
how do I get this thing off. The manual says remove the center hex bolt and insert a 50 mm pin. I did this only i had to make a pin out of a screw that was the right diameter,(6mm) I hope it can withstand the pressure when the hex bolt is screwed back in. I think I may have made the pin a bit short. when I screwed the hex bolt back in it came to the end of it's threading and popped through into the hollow space above the pin. Now it seems to be trapped between the threads and the pin at a slight angle.
It is now unable to be used to push against the pin and pop of the stator. this is a BMW 1985 R80. I'm wondering if I use a puller to push on top of the center hex bolt and pull at the bottom of the stator will it work? It seems to be on pretty tight! can I tap on it with a small hammer? It has to be replaced any way.

Sometimes it help to use a mapp gas torch and heat the junction. Exercise caution, clean the oil off first and keep a fire extinguisher handy. You don't want to get it red hot. Just heat it up and tap until it pops loose.
Use a slide-hammer. You can build one yourself by welding the 6mm bolt to a metal rod, with a weight that slides on the rod, and secure the end opposite of the screw with a t-connection (drill a hole in the rod and slide a pin through it to stop the weight from flying off). I had to make one for my 175 Jawa that used the same dumb alternator rotor set-up. DONT USE ANY HAMMERS LIKE SOME BOILER TECH TYPES HAVE SUGGESTED!

Got a lot of funny looks, but nobody seemed to "get" the joke.
(the joke being, for those that don't know their Scandinavian Mythology or read Marvel Comics, is that Thor could never lose Mjolnor - when he threw it - it magically returned to his hand, no matter what)
