"Could it be, then, that these "biased" journalists simply have a better grasp of the facts than the average reader? Also, by choosing to go into journalism instead of business or marketing, could it be that they tend more toward altruism than egoism?"

I disagree. Journalism is an inherently squishy profession to one degree or another, like art. Could it be that people who pursue journalism might tend to be more touchy-feely than those who pursue math/science stuff?

The, um, left-brained among us just tend to be less interested in writing. And I doubt that journalists go into their careers for the good of the world more often than anybody else. Well, more than porn stars.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that people who take squishy majors are less intelligent. Just more likely to write. And a little more likely to have a liberal POV.

Clumps 'o preferences that tend to go hand-in-hand, is all.

Bah.

I don't subscribe to any other motojournalistic stuff, but it doesn't appear to me that this site is lacking in motorcycle content. My $12 bought me more info than I have yet to find time to read, and that's what counts.

You can always just NOT read Jonny's rants, which I find quite interesting. And I doubt that those ten paragraphs took time out of anything else that MO was doing. C'mon, he probably typed it out while his coffee was brewing, he's an experienced journalist.

I've got a little example.

I remember distinctly (and this IS a little example) a news report or three about a local murder. The anchor (spelling?) sat behind the desk, with the cheesy little frame behind to give an illustration of what's going on. These murders that come to mind were commited with a handgun, so the picture was of a black revolver with a red "pop" thingy behind it. Ya know, those sun-lookin backgrounds they use for sales, also seen behind the old Batman's "BIFF!, KERPLAMPH!"

Seems a little pro gun control to have a murder picturized by an evil-looking handgun. Maybe I'm just nitpicking, though.

Re: When *intellectuals* smoke too much pot...

Wow. You're way over my head. What books did you read that made you want to take the blue pill?

Which way to enlightenment, please?. ;)
