I am certain this is not appreciated, but

I am in complete agreement with schiz. Basic economics. No way is the government ever going to fix this problem. We're still paying less for gas than we should be, and certainly a lot less than we will be once we sneak past the peak oil production moment, thus ending a bubble time in human history. Get used to it, friends. And remember the gov't can only make it more expensive, not less.

Jesus H!

Once again, I'm in agreement with the forces of evil. I think I feel fine, but something must surely be wrong with me.

Unfortunately, dmorga1, the history of US government is almost completely one of funneling the wealth of the many to the few. Usually there is some nice window dressing to make it sound like robbing the poor is good for good al' Amurikan freedom, or some other lie, but the fact is that our gov't is and has always been just a funnel. In this case, as in many others in recent history, that means the oil companies, and there really is no reason to think applying to one's captors for relief will get it done. All we can do is personally try and wean ourselves, and, my favorite, vote for ANYONE not in office right now. Until we disentangle ALL the connections between money and politics, we are ****ed. End of story. And the most efficient way of achieving this disentanglement is to kick every single incumbent out. Which won't happen, because Americans are too apathetic and refuse to see what's happening in front of them. Next thing you know, we'll probably be dropping nukes on Iran, and the drooling masses will just scream for more blood, rather than seeing their complicity in our national suicide.

Re: Jesus H!

Thanks VWW. I don't know quite what we're going to do, but I'm not ready to give up just yet. This country is capable of amazing stuff when we get around to it. I love the probably mis-quoted Churchill: "The Americans always do the right thing - once they have exhausted all other options."

Maladg: I thought I already told you to shut up about

economics. Anyone who references Julian Simon in a positive way is much more dangerous than pretty much anyone else. We do not have petro running out our ears. Ever heard of peak oil? Ever heard of Dr. Marion King Hubbert? Bashing Paul Ehrlich ran out of style along with anyone who has any idea who Paul Ehrlich was (is? who really cares at this point). You're absolutely high to suggest that sands and shale will ever be able to replace cheap oil. Obviously, if cheap oil gets expensive enough, then it will be cheaper to produce sand and shale oil. But then, the cost of the sand and shale oil will be the same it is now: way too ***** expensive. In any case, it will not be good news for any economy, much less ours.

Sorry for the bile, but lovin on Simon is a bit like saying Bill Bennett has anything to teach us about morals. Just because the train hasn't run us down yet doesn't mean that light at the end of the tunnel is Paradise.

I condemn you to a rainy weekend ... oh hell, you can do whatever the ***** you want as long as you quit regurgitating Lowest Common Denominator econ idolatry at us.

Yours in Ludditism,

FOM

Re: You are forgetting one important thing and the Apollo program

All true. I just have gotten so cynical about the ability of gov't to accomplish anything other than steal from the poor to benefit the rich that I no longer trust them to do such a thing, and *gasp* I almost think the free market can do a better job than gov't. As a bleeding heart liberal, that last sentence hurts me to write, but I sincerely believe that until we see a huge change in political leadership it is a true statement.

Re: Allah M!

Dude, WTF? Hypocrite? He was complimenting the USA. My helmet is too tight? You run out of homophobic insults? Allah M? Is that supposed to be a reference we could understand? I love the good ol' USA as much as anyone, I'm just not a card-carrying moron like people who allegedly only ride 'American Iron'. As if anyone believed you actually ride a bike, or at least one with an engine. One of those little bmx jobs with the stunt pegs front and rear, like all good mullet-havin' dirtheads ride, no matter which craptastic little town in America one visits? That I can see you on. Do you have the little "I wish I could grow a real mustache" on your upper lip, too?

Re: Jesus H!

No kidding. My dad thought anybody who wanted to be president should be excluded due to insanity; I agree with the idea of just picking people at random, maybe with a lottery. It simply could not be worse than what we have now, and have had for at least my lifetime.

Re: LOL

You have to be kpaul, right? Just messing with us? I mean, the whole act is so stilted, you couldn't possibly be a living, breathing individual who can type and yet is capable of such knuckledragging thoughts. The two capacities simply don't go together. At least anywhere outside of right wing bbs.

Okay, pencil**** here really has to be either a fiction of kpaul's imagination or a 13 year old. No way could an adult think he was going to actually irritate me with that. Come out, kpaul! The jig is up!

Re: LOL

all right, maybe he's not you. He must be somebody's alter ego, though. Burns? I think Burns is too busy for such foolishness. I hate to say it, kpaul, but you were the obvious choice because you devote so much time to the site.

Perhaps he is not a figment of someone's fevered imagination, but the alternative is really too horrible to contemplate. Imagine ... pencildx - a real, living, breathing, waste of air, american iron riding, latent homosekshul, gun-toting neanderthal! It's really too much for a civilized mind to grasp. For my own sanity, I will just assume that he is somebody's poor idea of a joke, and just ignore the foolishness.

Re: Maladg: I thought I already told you to shut up about

One thing has nothing to do with the other. They are only characterized as the same thing by people who don't bother to look into them. Please don't make that mistake.

I don't care what you or Maladg or anyone else thinks about peak oil, but for me, idolizing Simon is cult like behavior, akin to faith in the face of science. Economics is economics, and the economics of declining oil supply is what it is, no matter when it happens. Even the most conservative of commentators, analysts, etc., put the production peak no later than 2025. Technology may take care of the problem, but the economics of the deal doesn't look good, if one bothers to look into it. As a father, the difference between maybe 2005 and 2025 isn't that much.

So yes, I did learn something. And it sounds like it isn't going to help you. Not my kid. Make your own mistakes.

PS I didn't believe Ehrlich then, so this is not a change for me.

Nice. I'll check it out. I don't particularly believe that we can achieve a free market, but it's a good idea, and I like the motto: anti-war, anti-state, pro-market. Possibly file under 'taint never gonna happen', but I'll check it out.

Re: Excellent Post Again in a competive market profit margins stay the same

whatever, troll.

"Entering the oil/gasoline trade is not easy as there are huge entry/startup costs and lots of legal compliance issues. " What ***** rightwing nutjob econ book did you copy that out of? What a steaming crock. Like you could explain economics to anything, much less anyone here. You think lowering supply doesn't affect gas prices? You think OPEC just works real hard to make sure everybody's got enough gas? You think OPEC isn't cozied right the ***** up with W? Take a look at the picture of W holding that Saud's hand, and kissing his cheek. Pretty gay if you ask me.

"The GDP deflator clearly shows how consumers started making use of alternatives to force the pricelevels down." Oh yeah, alternatives like Japanese cars that get better gas mileage. And nothing about how OPEC stopped jamming us to show they could crush us whenever they wanted, so we would fall into line and do whatever they wanted, democracy or no.

You know what? I'm starting to believe you do exist, you're not somebody's imagination, and you're as much of a moron as your writing would indicate. Congratulations! Please tell me you live in the South (my fingers are crossed) because I really don't want your kind anywhere near my peeps.

Take your ball, or your shaved balls, or your shaved freaking puss for all I care, and go home, you ***** imbecile.

PS Carter- 76-80. I believe you're referring to dipwad Nixon/Ford assmenstruations. Of course, all that was before you were born- how would you know? Shut up, punk.

again with the fudgepacking. What a surprise. I guess I tire of pointing out your homofascination because, of course, I have a lot of queer friends. All of whom are better people than you, and who could quite assuredly put your ass in the ground if you pulled any of this kind of bull***** in real life. Which of course you don't, because your a ***** little ***** living in your mama's basement. Just like the rest of your rightwing heroes. I mean the coward part, not the your mama's basement part. They all live in fat ***** mansions, thanks to idiots like you who funnel power and money their way. Nice job, pencil.
