That column is three or four years old, however it applies today just as much if not more. It's not helmet laws that's going to phuck us, it's loud pipes. I don't have and I think most people motorcyclist or not don't have a problem with cans that are a little louder than the federal 80dba stock cans, specially if you keep it down to a reasonable level in town or in the neighborhood, it's open pipes on cruisers and race cans on sportbikes that ***** everyone off. I think Harley is on the right track by discontinuing the Screamin' Eagle cans and I think the other aftermarket companies should follow suit and put some more effective baffeling in their products.



The fact is it's their business survival that's at stake, it's already illegal to tamper with intake and exhaust systems, it's just not enforced. Sooner or later some pencil neck at city hall is going to figure out how much money is to be made on tickets for modified exhausts and officer friendly is going to have a field day writing tickets.

I'll bet you could make a bundle selling them in Meh-Hi-Co, no pesky intrusive enviromental laws there and a culture that values the manly displays that loud pipes exemplify...

The Feds do require a specific decible level at a specific distance, that's why all stock exhaust systems are restricted to 80dba. You'll find it stamped on the exhaust of every new bike.

They don't need meters, all they have to do is look for the EPA 80dba stamp on the pipes. Since it's illigal to tamper with the exhaust, if the stamps not there write them a ticket. The only cost is a flashlight and a mirror on a stick....

The point is which everyone seems to grasp except you is that if a minority of "bikers" continue blasting joe taxpayer with their loud pipes we won't have the option of mounting the bikes of our choice and having a great time

Depends on how adventurous.... I have the T100, not the Scrambler so it's strictly a road bike. The Scrambler has longer suspension and an available skid plate so I think that would do fire roads pretty easy. That is if you can put up with a vertical twin Brit without the 360 firing order....(I couldn't)...



The bike's an absolute blast though, just like the old days without all the nonsense..
