I put in my two cents worth a while a go with the idea of a xb based supermoto. But with the talk happening here I figured I go one more. What about a bored out blast (650cc) with FI in the supermoto trim??????????????
I really can't imagine an XB-based motor in a dual-sport or adventure-tourer. But a neo-supermoto with a reworked Blast thumper? Now that just might work.
There has been some speculation about a DP bike, an uprated corner carver, and an S3T replacement.
Hey Erik: If a new model is a DP bike or an S3T replacement, my wallet is yours. Sorry I missed you in Seattle, I wanted to thank you for making cool bikes.
As the owner of a pumped S3T, I'm looking forward to this. My S3T is the coolest bike I've ever owned. Sure, it's been a pain in the arse from time to time, but it's a freaking kick to ride.
I've looked at all the adventure/DP bikes over the last couple of years, but none has hooked me. C'mon Erik, bring some attitude.
I'd be interested in hearing a review when you've got 15K on it or so. It's good to hear that it's been a great experience so far, but that's not a lot of miles to really draw a conclusion from. I really like the frame design on these things, but the bikes still make me nervous based on a Buell I had in the 90s. I ride a lot of miles, and commute about 2K miles a month (rain or shine in OR!) and ride a bunch more, so I'd love to hear how they handle a 25K mile year.
Still, love to hear from happy Buell owners, hope Moto Cysz shows as much promise and owner loyalty.
I'm betting on a DS based on a hotted up Blast. A single from half a 1200 maybe. A trailie with a sportster V-twin is just wrong. (Look at the Colorado 500 webpage under News and you'll see Wally Dallenback on a rather right one though. )
As the present owner of one of the old trellis frame Buells (2000 Cyclone), I'd love to see an updated Buell sport tourer. Unfortunately, I don't see how the XB platform would allow it -- it's just plain too small.
Yep you are probably right. Perhaps they could create a elongated frame for it. But that may be cost prohibitive given Buell has to beg money from Harley.
Personally, I'd like to see Triumph reissue the Hurricane with an Speed-3 engine, and an updated frame and suspension. The Hurricane has been almost-universally lauded as one of the most beautiful bikes ever built; and IMHO that still holds-true. Rather than go head-to-head with the Japanese: too much plastic, too uncomfortable and God don't they all look the same, I really believe Triumph would be better served going with more classic lines, while constantly improving performance.
I don't have much faith in Triumph's ability to compete against Japan on the racetrack. Rather than see them get spanked -while trying to appeal to the youth market - I'd love to have the chance to get my hands on a ultra-modern cafe' racer.
