Maybe I'm missing something here, but if a car turned left into a motorcycles path, and the motorcycle hit the driver's side door, wouldn't that indicate that the motorcyclist was maybe picking a real lousy time to pass? I know it's usually the car's fault when bikes get hit, but having made some bonehead passes myself over the years, I have to wonder if this isn't one where the bike was at fault.

The truth of the matter is that we're hard to see. People see big ass trucks because, well, they're big, and also, because they can hurt them. We don't qualify in either way. A motorcycle can disappear into a 'blind spot' for much longer than a car can. I ride, have ridden for thirty five years, and can still lose one in my blind spot when I'm driving. The key to survival on a motorcycle is to assume you are invisible, and act accordingly.
