This was a stupid move. The biggest problem is that they are a 2 stroke bike country and in no way did they try to convert the riders to 4 stroke bikes- that run much cleaner. Gov't good- People stupid- that's the what the gov't wants you to believe.
I can't understand why not. Granted it is a different form of government, but it is a government. Because the power structure is ostensibly different doesn't invalidate comparisons made at a policy-level entirely. You just have to exercise some judgement when you're doing it.
Agreed. However, if the gov't would have taken the time to try to educate the public of the air quality issues and given some type of buy back program (we are taking socialism/communism here) to encourage the purchase of newer or at least 4 stroke machines the problem would have eased in the very least.
Agreed. I guess I should of said just because a totalitarian regime like China can make a change like this doesn't mean the best form of government ever invented (U.S. style of republic) will do the same..
Sounds like an eminently reasonable solution. Sure a few thousand people will lose everything, but it's a small price to pay in search of clean air. There are too many people anyhow. Just think of the children.
Heh heh. The triumph of totalitarian govt..... the One Child Rule. All the greenies had wet dreams when they saw the Chinese mandate this. I wonder how they will feel when the Chinese explode out of their borders looking for mates for the 100 million overrepresented males? It won't be pretty.
What baffles me is not that a Communist Government would make such a decision, but that we would sit back and actually analyze it in someway different than what it is..... a decision made by a Communist Government, without any regard to how it would effect their people.
And no, it is different than our government, because we could actually complain and take action to do something about it. The Chinese citizens cannot.
