It's a damn shame our country has come to the point where this is the prevailing opinion. I, however, believe in the US and our ability to improve ourselves. I don't think we're doomed to descend into a society of haves and have-nots, whose only credibility in the world comes from our armed forces. I think things are going to get better.
If our profligate spending, both military and social, doesn't bankrupt us first. The problem is that both major parties are dedicated to ruinous spending policies and are in love with the use of force against their constituents. Many of us just want to be left alone and are tired of being tormented by the politicians and the many, mostly phony, crises they promote. The only real crisis is the one of financial mismanagement and in that instance neither party offers anything but more goodies, more mismanagement and more of the same that got us here. Neither a corrupt Chicago machine politician nor a corrupt scandal-ridden old boy are going to fix that.

I'm a Libertarian. Didn't vote for Bush either time. I did get a huge chuckle out of the Demos losing both times, though. The Gore loss was fun to watch, but in '04 watching James Carville twisting, twitching and sweating live at 2am on CNN on election night was also a damn fine time.
I'm in Utah. It doesn't matter how I vote. Utah always goes 65-35 to the Republican. Expect it to go 75-25 this time.
Don't make me come over to Utah with a handful of Hula Hoops (tm).
