1957 Allstate 250

I have a 1957 Allstate 250 which is in good condition but I'm not sure if I want to sell it. Are you still interested? How much do you think it is worth?

Nope, just XXX that brings it up to, oh, around 140 proof. And you should talk with your new picture that looks like a glass tank of fermenting stuff with an air lock bubbler on it. Chicken feed don't work, tried it and I produced what tasted like insecticide. Great for killing weeds though.

Allstate/Puch

These old Allstates appear on the e-bay frequently. One just sold from my home town of Rapid City for about $600.00. I have nearly every Allstate that was in the Sear catalog!! Go to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum web site and see a couple of my Allstates plus other machines I have in there. I need information for my current project though. What I need is a list of engine serial number ranges for the years the 250cc SG Model was produced. Also some general information or photos of the engines. When did the carburetor position change from the forward-projecting carb to the straight-in-from-the-side configuration? Also are most 250cc engine parts interchangeable? What about different compression ratios on these engines? If anyone has this information or know of a source please send me an e-mail. Kenny

Look in VMX magazine issue #38 that will be on the newstands in about two weeks, I did a complete history on the Puch. The twingle was patented in 1923, and it went from a rear-facing carb to the side mount in 1956. I will get with my Puch buddy and try to get you the serial numbers. The motor stayed pretty much un-changed from 1956 on up, 'till they quit selling them at Sears around 1969-1970. I'll send you the rough draft with a cut-away on the twingle for your enjoyment.

Compression ration was 6.5 to 1. The crank with the eccentric link stayed un-changed for the entire production run, with the exception of bearing materials and sizes.

Well, it's not a Puch (pronounced "puke" in my youth...), but if you are just interested in a two-stroke, there is a nice '73 Jawa with a sidecar on Craigslist/Atlanta for $3000.00. It looks nice.....and of course, sidecars make my heart go pittie-pat.

Alas, I have too many projects already.....
