There's no SEARCH function in any section other than the Forums. If I wanted to lookup "Dainese" to see if you reviewed a jacket, for example, I'd be screwed. All that wonderful content and no way to access it...

"You need to start using your Quick Links button. Click on Quick Links and then go to Today's Posts. It will take you to a list of the most recent posts as they happen throughout the day. This allows you to see who posted what and when. Once you select a post it will take you to that portion of the thread with minimal clicking and thread scrolling. I keep my forum setting to Hybrid so I know where I am at on the forum."

And you consider this as simple as the previous system which required no "quick links" buttons or extra clicking at all? Sorry, but you're going to run out of lipstick long before you cover this pig.

"It is completely different than the last forum and the community structure will change."

There will be no community. Just lots of people posting their own thoughts but not interacting with others because it's not worth the trouble to click through all of the posts. Just people talking past each other. I repeat, I don't know what's going on with 90% of this thread, because it's not worth the goddamn work to read them.

"But I think as we all adapt the communication will be just as biting and sarcastically dry as before."

We got to know each other before. It will be nearly impossible to do that now. No inside jokes, no ongoing funny discussions... ain't gonna happen. These forums will be dull as dishwater.

It's been five days. Is there an entertaining news thread going on somewhere? On the old site, we were all in the same place (the top three threads of the news, which required a whopping three clicks to read EVERYTHING). I got a laugh every day. Can't say the same for this week. You?"

And I say I'm with you schizuki! Not that you'll ever see this or that if you do that I'll eversee your reply.

The old forum was great for exactly the reasonsyou state. I don't even realize why someone thought this new format would be acceptable to our community. Or what was our community.

Oh, I dunno, Derrick. I use the "New Posts" button and that brings up the threads that people have actually posted to since I was last here. When I'm done, I click on the "Mark threads read" button. That way, when I next visit and hit the new posts button, I don't get any reruns. I can read everything new, or at least everything new that has any interest to me. I don't miss a thing, and I can respond to anyone just as I did before.

One thing we have noticed is that the new format seems to be encouraging new people to post, and that's a good thing, don't you think?

I agree with schizuki that it does not foster the same community feel the previous board had.

Thanks for the tip sachi. I have tried it and will give the new forum a chance. But to make a weak analogy: The R1 may be one of the most fun, advanced and feature filled sportbikes on the planet but a seven year old Road King is still my ride of choice for most riding situations and conditions.

New people are posting because they can - because its free, not because the forum is better. MO just increased their readership by a large factor. The Internet has gotten a lot bigger since the last time MO was free.

I think the fact that anyone can post a new thread is fantastic.

I think Shizuki's issues which many of us share can be solved by two things:

1) a new threaded view (basically fixing the hybrid view) to put all the comments in nested so all you have to do is scroll to read them (and understand who is replying to whom) and

2) A new display option next to "New Posts" which is "Chronological Order".

Also, I suspect a lot of the confusion about what is new will end once the administration finishes reposting all the old articles. I think even just #1 would be a major fix and we could probably figure out how to use the New Posts and Subscribed Threads features to keep our conversations going once all the old content is finally posted.

To make another analogy: what if Honda came out with an awesome new class-leading, cutting-edge-styled 600cc sportbike that you started by tickling the carbs, setting the magneto, advancing the ignition, kicking a lever several times, and adjusting the proper air-fuel mixture? Hey, it's just a few extra steps, right? You'll get used to it!

Schizuki, I used to own a '69 Norton and a '64 Bonneville. They were fabulous bikes! I reworked the electrics (mostly the wiring) and had the Amal carbs sleeved in stainless, and after that they were pretty darn dependable. But they needed tickling and of course they were kick starts, and they vibrated a good bit. But by dang, they were a couple of the most enjoyable bikes I've ever owned.

It's not always about the conveniences. Loving what you ride is important. A lot of people love riding Harleys, and more power to 'em.

Hey, I love old bikes. I'm not slagging old bikes. I'm slagging new forums with Marquis de Sade interfaces.

Go ahead and click on "Review" pick anyone and scroll thru to the end. There will be a camera icon, click on it and presto, pictures!
Ahh - Many thanks for pointing out what I missed. It's a bit inefficient though that the link takes you to a general pics page from which you then have to find the article and open up the ink from there...

Meh. I guess it will divert me from work that little bit longer...lol

AHHHH - I can't view large pics! I get an error saying "Please register for a premium account with Motorcycle.Com to view large format images." I just bought a damn subscription a few weeks ago!!! Now I have to buy another? (Yes I am logged in)... What is a Premium account and how do I register? Do I have to buy another subscription? Once logged in, I can't even find anywhere to access my account profile or anything. O - Wait - I found it. But it says I have to pay another $11.99 to become a Premium Member. I just bought my subscription at the beginning of June! MO 2.0 - The Teething Continues...

Please help!
