sometimes they're hard to see, like if your spliting lanes toward a interesection with a red light, but it turns green as your getting there so you gun it to get out from bettween the last two cars... well sometimes there can be a person still crossing and sometimes they can apear bettween the two cars just as you get there.
I know some one that hit some one under those conditions.
If you shoot into an intersection right after the light turns green, after approaching from back between the stopped cars, you're just begging to get killed by a driver trying to beat the "pink" light on the cross street. -Sean
I agree. This is one more reason I will not and have not "split lanes". Do unto others as you would like done to you; how about another car "splitting your lane", such as passing you without completing changing lanes.
What happened to the motorcyclist? Judging from her injuries, the pedestrian was only grazed and startled by the bike. But the rider still could have gone down. Hard to believe you could hit someone that big and keep your wheels down. The news story says she was hit.
Yeah, but that crossing time is too short. 21 seconds makes it unsafe for both pedestrians and motorists, and the city should look into increasing the time interval to more than 21 seconds. I think the ticket is unreasonable.
We have pedestrian lights here in Napa, Ca, (and I'm sure a lot of places) where Carl Lewis couldn't get across the street before the light changes. Pedestrians are held in even lower regard than motorcyclists. We should remember that the next time we sit at a light that won't respond to our motorcycle's lack of mass or aluminum or whatever magical combination of properties it takes to trip the signal. I think we are pedestrians, and pedestrians are us.
One of the ways the people who sell traffic camera's to cities is to show how many 'violations' are going on every day. What they don't tell you is that they speed up the time interval between yellow and red, so that more people will show up going through a red. This leads people sitting at a red to expect a green sooner when they see the yellow for cross traffic out of the corner of their eye. There is actually a word for this, which I cannot, for the life of me recall, but it basically means a government created problem. I think both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian are what you might call "collateral damage" in a bigger game.
