This is an AWESOME idea. I've had the same thought many times: throw out the BS micro-management rules, tell teams to bring what they want, and hit the track. Enough with losing the race because your fuel management system throttled the bike back to meet some stupid EPA butt-kiss rule.

Will it work? If they can keep it reasonably safe, HELL yes. People will flock to a race like this; live or on TV, if it's done right. Even non-motorcycle people can figure out that a "No Rules, No BS" race series on bikes will be awesome.

Can these people make it happen? I hope so, because I want to see it.

I don't do drugs, so don't take this the wrong way. But the subhead I wanted to use for this article was was: "Doing for motorcycle racing what cocaine does for a happy day ..."

Or something like that. If this guy can get a few 10s of millions for a weekend network payout, more power to him! If Hollywood artists can usher motorcycling into the big leagues, I say, go for it!

It will make a million dollar purse totally do-able, and in the process pay motorcycle racers and teams the money they deserve. I mean think about it: you hear of some guy who swings a bat or golf club getting a contract for $6M, $10M, more ... ?

This is just the spike the MC industry could use. You know something's wrong when Tiger Woods can pay a $100M divorce settlement while uber-talented riders are dying on the vine in obscurity, or living on insufficient pay.

We all know motorcycle racing takes more skill, is more exciting, death defying, everything! All it needs is proper marketing. Stanford Crane proposes to do just that.

Now, at the count of three, all together: Think positive thoughts in his direction!

:)

"Umbrella Girl ass is proof that God wants us to get boners."

#6 ·
I love the idea.Being a family venue the umbrella girls should wear clothing of some type.Of course we all understand the value more naked chicks would add to the party.
I'll compromise with you: They can wear clothing; but it must be scanty and skin-tight.....

Well its about time! This is great news I do believe the motorsports industry could do a lot better even with cars which I rarely watch. What happened to the "run what ya brung classes" these are the most exciting races to watch the David and Goliath race(if you will).

Once watched a FZR4 go head to head with a FZR1 at talladega great race! The four hundred won! Thats what roadracing is about for me.

The DMG fiasco left a lot of people pretty unhappy with motorcycle racing. For the first time in...many years...I didn't attend the Daytona 200 last year.

It's so simple: you can race what you can qualify on. No tech inspections, no cheating (how can you cheat when there are no rules?), no gerrymandering the rules to favor one team/manufacturer/design. The potential for innovation that could come from a series like this is reason enough in itself.

WOW!< I have been waiting my whole life for a motorcycle race like the World Moto CLash. The state of racing in the USA is dreadful at best. The purses are tiny and the rules suck. The Clash would even the playing field and give the privateers a chance to actually compete and win. There are so many great riders all over the world that don't have a ride. The thought of seeing this on a big screen in 3D gives me chills. Please make this happen guys. I am sure you will have every eyeball in the world who loves racing watching these races.

Hmmm. Deja Vu! Old concept revived/refreshened! Seems like a bunch of Romans tried this years back at a track called Coliseum with two wheeled vehicles and unlimited horsepower! Yep, brother Ben Hur and the chariot dudes. Went on to become the overwhelming favorite of tens of thousands of fans grown weary of watching the same ole Christian team get devoured by the Lion team, roughly akin, me thinks to watching AMA privateers against Factory bikes. Seriously!

No, seriously, the point is this race/series can be a game changer, a paradigm shift, a kick ass week of solid entertainment topped off by a totally unpredictable final race outcome that will have fans worldwide on the edge up to the very end. Pure action, pure suspense, pure motorsports, and a huge purse. With eye candy both mechanical and feminine in abundance, what is not to like? Sounds like moto magic to me! Bring it on! Oh, and make sure that Rossi and Biaggi - the other Roman Emperor - are part of the on track action for sure!

I have to wonder if multimillion rider contracts might have restrictions on what they ride and in what series. And I imagine Dorna's lawyers might want to get into this. IMO, if a 2011 event does actually happen, it will consist of a bunch of hot-rodded superbikes. It's highly unlikely anyone could develop a machine with a bespoke chassis and engine in time. The really cool and innovative stuff would only be seen if this series became an annual event.

I love this idea, and I really hope it can be pulled off. But I remain skeptical it can be done at all, never mind in 2011. If it happens, I'll be there!

The World Moto Clash is the answer to all "True Roadracers" desires and dreams. I've been working with Stanford Crane on WMC since the very beginning and we've had many hurdles to overcome because of the magnitude of this project. For 25 years I've fought for Safer, More Fair Racing that can pay a motorsport Athlete closer to what he is really worth! Additionally, what my sport has always needed was someone behind the series driving the program with as much passion and respect for the sport as the Athletes who put on the incredible show. Stanford Crane and the New Guard Entertainment team are the answer to my prayers…we are going to kick ass with the “Next Big Thing”, having Tony Scott with us will assure its success.
Even in the brightest years of the elite American series, the Athletes and their family members, along with some of the hardest working crew members in motorsport were treated as paying customers to put on a show that the organizer made profit from. World Moto Clash will change all that and the currently "Bush League" motorcycle racing atmosphere into the Ultimate Sporting Spectacle it has always deserved to be recognized as! A rejuvenated passion for this great sport is on the immediate horizon for all of us and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

More than two years later, we're still waiting. Might you have evidence to support continued optimism?

World Moto Clash

As a lover of most sports, I find it incredible that motorcycle racing treats its riders and fans in such a cavalier manner. In no other professional sport are the competitiors so poorly paid for delivering such thrilling performance. Roll on WMC !

World Moto Clash

I have been following Mr. Crane's activities for a very long time , and he has always been one of the "do-ers" rather than the "talkers." If anyone has the determination, the experience, and the wherewithal to bring into existence an entirely new form of two-wheeled competition, he is that singular person. His WMC idea, when implemented, will infuse the entire industry with new ideas, new machines, and, most of all, genuinely new electronic media-based methods of engaging its audiences.

My take: 10 races. Divided by two rounds as support races for 5 series. Those series GP, WSBK, AMA, Austrailian SBK, Canadian Superbike. GP can do 1 Qatar and a Japan round, WSBK can do 1 England and Spain or Italy round, AMA can nego Barber and a TBN round, Aus can do Phillip Island and a TBN, Canada I don't know the tracks but I'm sure they can figure it out.
If your racing on contract in your Home races for your sanctioned body you cannot participate in the Clash. So, Factory riders in the AMA cannot race the AMA rounds and so on. BUT private racers (Like the Boz Bros) can race. So, that way stars can race but Factory guys have to attend to their bikes for the weekend. Ex. Rossi could race a duc on a GP off week if allowed by his bosses.
I would make the focus like a moto version of an IROC race. That way there's no need to keep championship points. It's just an all out race for the cash. Then it wouldn't matter who got to race and didn't. Could you imagine Latus Motorsports prepping a supercharged duc 1198s and letting Rossi race it in an AMA round of the Clash? Or seeing Larry Pegram race a prepped BMW turbo in a Miller Clash round or Canadian round. Madness!! But the thought is pretty cool.

Nice idea Ace. Stanford says the WMC will be like putting on a Superbowl. He's not wanting to do 10 a season. At least not at this juncture.

It would be great if he could. But creating the publicity, and the many millions necessary for one of these limits them.

I think also, since he's attracting a non-rider audience along with the enthusiasts with his 3D presentation, if he did it too much, the non-committed might get bored after a while because they were never into it in the first place. It was just a fad for them.

Just like some people watched NASCAR for a while, then stopped. Packaging this product has to be done carefully.

... (although I'll add that NASCAR also created many new fans, and WMC intends to in like manner, so we shall see ... )

I knew about that story from April 1. It's not a hoax. Stanford had two investors and was ready to go in March 2009. My story reflects this.

One was a hedge fund -- they tanked or had a run on money or something as the market was doing really bad -- so they pulled their offer to WMC. Other was an investment banker, and he was trying to get his own deal going by leveraging off of the WMC thing, and then not sure the details, but he withdrew.

This time, Stanford says the WMC will happen. He has new investors, and other mechanisms in place. I asked if he was 100% sure? He said given how things happened before, he won't say 100% "until the check clears" but he did say 90% sure, and is overall confident, saying he has more than one means of making it happen.

His insurance and network deals are in place. He is being contacted by the best riders in the world (and I mean the top, including MotoGP best know who he is). ...

If they do this as a 1 race event then it needs to rotate venues and be raced late in the season. I would run it like an endurance 4 hr if it were my event. With one rider change at the 2hr mark. Other than that the fundimentals I like, but a 1 hr race wo't cut it for that type of investment.

#32 ·
I imagine worthy riders would come up through their own ranks, and survive to make the singular race. And like in boxing, and pay-per-view events that sometimes lasts only minutes, its totally possible to bring HUGE money if marketed correctly...

#31 ·
Only 30 slots - Joe Blo better bring his "A" game, or Rossi's gonna use him for a blowup-doll.

When is bringing a gun to a knife fight a level playing field?

Many of the rules in the current race series' are there to actually create the level playing field... as controversial as it might be year to year. Once someone shows up with a nitrous-laden Bumpy, Matt's Jawa is sure to be beat. A new level is born. Should take about 3 minutes to weed out the applicants since many privateer racers don't have celebrity money (or riders) to throw at their motorcycles.

But power to the guy for proposing change!
