Never taken the DMV course. I've always taken the MSF course in every state I've moved too.

 

Many DMVs provide a book that includes a diagram of the course so that riders can practice ahead of time.

 

The va dmv handbook does not and they will not give any deminsions out at the office to practice .

 

Why wouldn't you take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) rider's course? In many states, you automatically get a full endorsement when you pass. It's like being given the test to practice all day long before taking the actual test. That leads to a high level of success (pass rate).

As an aside, I have a co-worker that bought a scooter and was too impatient to wait for an available MSF class. He went to the DMV and passed. It can be done, but why would you want to?

 

Listen to Dr. Pulley. Take the MSF and at least get the minimum skills to survive on the street.

 

I would prefer to call him "Dr. Sheave".

In all likelihood, the available MSF courses are full. They tend to do that as the weather warms around here.

Bite your tongue! I worked all weekend. By the time I got home, it was dark and cold.

 

The dmv will have a course at the back of the building where they will test you. If you want to practice, just go there after hours or on the weekend at the time they're not open, and practice.

 

FWIW, I am from VA, but have never taken a test here. I got my license on an 1974 MT250 dual sport. Borrow a dual sport for the test. Problem solved.

I think he works with Jack Meoff. Anyway, I took the DMV riders test on my old KZ750 in 2004 (after they found my MC endorsement from 1973 had expired) and I asked the tester if I could do it standing up. Worked a lot better. Real tight test, lots of cones and red borders and stuff.

I took the original test in 1973 on a Cushman Eagle. When the guy asked me to point out the clutch and gear shifter, he almost shat he did. Suicide shift.
